Come on. Nobody expects football to recruit like basketball. Basketball is recruiting like a top 10 program instantly. We expect football to recruit like a top non-BCS/lower BCS program, which is the next step up. Instead we are recruiting like the dregs of non-BCS competing with SFA and UTSA.ponyboy wrote:Jones haters have to at least acknowledge the simple fact that the Big East football league is at best the fifth best conference. Re: LB and staff recruiting
Agreed that football recruiting is disappointing.
Re: LB and staff recruiting
Losing Syracuse, Pitt, West Virginia, and Notre Dame (in bball) hurt the Big East in basketball much more than than football. Only 2 future Big East basketball teams ranked in the Top 25 in both polls and that is Louisville and Memphis http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings . So your argument holds almost no water. So you take out those team and it is about the same on both. And no the football staff is not recruiting like a they are in a top 5 conference, which the Big East is. ACC is number six.ponyboy wrote:Jones haters have to at least acknowledge the simple fact that the Big East football league is at best the fifth best conference. Big East in basketball? One or two. One player really helped them for sure.EconPony'10 wrote:by Junior » Wed Oct 31, 2012 10:37 pm

Cam Newton sure did a good job turning around Auburn.

Ok, I stand corrected. If we had a player who went first overall in the NFL draft, I would have higher expectation for this team.Rebel10 wrote:One player really helped them for sure.EconPony'10 wrote:by Junior » Wed Oct 31, 2012 10:37 pm

Re: LB and staff recruiting
Losing those teams hurts the football side too. So the argument stands. The Big East, even the new Big East, carries much more swagger in basketball than football. It's not even close.Rebel10 wrote:Losing Syracuse, Pitt, West Virginia, and Notre Dame (in bball) hurt the Big East in basketball much more than than football. No, the argument does not stand because your argument is one of a straw man. Syracuse, Pitt, and WV are better in basketball than football. Don't twist what I am saying. I said it hurts more in basketball than in football. You are dead wrong. Only 2 teams in the top 25 on both polls. Get real. No way that is the second best basketball conference in the country.

Re: LB and staff recruiting
Ok, let's do it this way. Is the new Big East in basketball much more respected than the new Big East in football?
Re: LB and staff recruiting
Can't agree with that either. Even ESPN had to back down from the media attack on the football once they saw the ACC getting jacked up. And everyone could see how ESPN was trying to degrade the BE football to try to low ball the TV contract which they failed. I still think June should have hired a coaching staff with a lot heavy Texas connections.

You can't agree that the new Big East in basketball is light years ahead of the new Big East in football in terms of respectability? Well, that's certainly an interesting position.

Re: LB and staff recruiting
this is true and I agree. But LB is still out there with his staff selling. I just wish June would hire a staff that was as aggressive as LBs staff. I feel that people might be a little more forgiving about the record and other issues if the staff was proactive in recruiting. Maybe that is just me.ponyboy wrote:You can't agree that the new Big East in basketball is light years ahead of the new Big East in football in terms of respectability? LB figured out the players can make a coach look good or bad, you can only coach em up so much. You win with players.

Re: LB and staff recruiting
You are right if you are talking about the Big East today but you are wrong if you are talking about the new Big East. I gave you a top 25 basketball list and all you gave me was your personal opinion based upon your own emotional straw man argument. Give me some independent info to support your position.ponyboy wrote:You can't agree that the new Big East in basketball is light years ahead of the new Big East in football in terms of respectability? Remember he he talking about Big East basketball with Syracuse, Pitt, Notre Dame and WV. CUSA is bringing a lot to the table in Memphis, Houston(top 25 recruiting class), and a future SMU squad.

Re: LB and staff recruiting
When a school does not have a history or tradition in basketball, it takes far more than aggessiveness and connections although connection help. It is all about reputation, credibility, experience, proven track record plus professional and historical aclaim. A young coach with all the tangibles would not be able to talk to the kids of this quality without years of slowly building a program and reputation to interest the quality kids. LB is one of the few people I can think of who has the total package and can do what he has accomplished thus far.GiddyUp wrote:what a difference a nice aggressive staff, the right connections, and a lot of effort do.
