Law suit waiting to happen. I appreciate his drive and desire but too risky at his age. Sorry David.
Yes, to try out as a walk on.....and, making the team does not necessarily mean playing time......I'm sure there are waivers which could be drawn up....and as he has said, " I have my own insurance and am willing to indemnify the school".
Smustatesman aka NUKE......I procreate and I vote.
We could have put him in for one play against USM or Tulsa and made a big to-do about it. Halftime video of his 1980s play, scenes from Pony Exce$$, introduction, applause. Easy-peesy. David would have appreciated the publicity and we'd have another public cleansing of the Death Penalty off our back. Shame if this isn't done.

Look if others want to wallow in this fine, but 95% of our university has moved on. Enough already. Lets live in the present.
I can already see the NCAA enforcement office gearing up to sanction him and the school because the publicity for the book and him playing is some sort of amateurism violation -- how is that any different than players selling jerseys, etc that has Ohio State ineligible? Hell, maybe they'll re-hire Beebe for old time's sake to take us down again.
I think we should bring it up in every single conversation how bad arse we were in the 1980s and how we were disproportionally punished. Show film, honor players at halftime, retire numbers, no need to hide it. We need to destroy the stigma behind DP, not stop talking about it. In fact, our most glorious years were around DP, our best players, our best fans, it would disadvantagous not to talk about it and embrace it as part of our history. It's a more powerful brand than what we currently have:
Guy1: "Hey did you hear June beat somebody in the Hawaii Bowl?"
Guy2: "Who'd SMU beat?"
Guy1: "I don't remember, but I'm surprised SMU won because I thought they've sucked ever since the Death Penalty. Anyway, can't wait for the [insert SEC school] game!"
right....because following that conversation with somthing like "but we were really good before electricity" is a big winner. That means alot to someone who was not born then, and i am sure it helps our brand to keep bringing it up.

It just makes us look sad.
I disagree with that thought. I work with and have met so many people who were reminded of how good SMU was. The great players we had. A philly person who remembers Wes Hopkins. Pitt folk who love ES 88. They all want to know about SMU.
