And his Wisconsin lines were awesome. So?
There have been a lot of coaches with stud OLs who never win an Outland Trophy, and he has to be the only coach in the country with 3. I don't know enough about offensive line play to sit here and say he's some kind of genius, but to suggest he sucks sounds foolish. The line, from what have seen, has been much better than expected this season.

Wisconsin plays smashmouth football. They have had several OL coaches that have done well at Wisconsin. Wisconsin has been to 3 straight Rose Bowls without Palcic. OL is almost on cruise control there. But his last stop at UCLA he had to really do more coaching and he did not do a good job. Our offense is not a Wisconsin type offense and it is clear that he as he did not do well at UCLA that he is not doing a good job here. You sound like you interviewed him or something. Klemm has done a better job with the UCLA line than Palcic did with it.

Klemm's last o-line here was disappointing IMHO and Palcic had a line that was a pleasant surprise. I am excited to see next year's offering in that department.

Klemm did put Beachum and LeRibeus in the pros as well and has done a really good job with a UCLA line that was not very good before he got there. No problem with Klemm here. I guess we will have to see how Palcic does with a pass oriented offensive line as opposed to a run oriented offensive line like Wisconsin. Next year will tell quite a bit imo.

When Palcic got here and did not see talent like he had at UCLA I think that is why he started bad mouthing them to you and others. There were a lot of mental errors last year on the line which shows bad coaching. Palcic has not leg to stand on since his UCLA lines were bad while they had talent. UCLA lines were very good this year. So now Palcic will have to do a better job of coaching than he did this year or we need a better OL coach.
I have never had any contact or conversations with palcic. If you stick your foot any further down your throat it is going to come out your [deleted].
If you look at how the players on campus were rated, our tackles were much more highly regarded. If we are taking a judo at tackle, it throws up some concerns about the younger players.

Out of curiosity, How many of the starters on UCLA's line this year for Klemm also started last year for Palcic? I do not know enough about UCLA to know that answer, but I did read that they had a freshman All American and a Sophomore 1st team All PAC OL. It is possible that some of these guys didn't play last year under Palcic.
Your comparison is really only a fair one if the same guys are starting under both coaches and even then, a lot can happen in terms of player development.
Do not take this is Klemm bashing, because its not. I wish the guy was still at SMU. His passion and relentless recruiting are not in question, both of those things are needed at SMU.
I do think the OL was better than expected this year (I had extremely low expectations for them)...but you can only coach up kids so much.
Im not sure you can attribute all mental mistakes to coaching, certainly to some extent. but again, a coach can only do so much and can't play between the lines for the kids.
Someone referenced all the mental mistakes of the OL this year, I would say last year the OL had far more penalties and mental mistakes.

Of course there were some crucial false starts (goal line at Tulane) and holding calls here and there, but every single team has those.
Most people expected the OL to be the weakest part of the team even when the idea of Love walking in and starting at LT from day one was floating around. There was talk about whether or not GG would even make it to the C-USA part of the schedule.
The OL exceeded everybody's expectations.

I had read where he was wavering, because he wanted to play guard instead of tackle. He signed with Maryland.

I believe he had some problems with transferring some JC credits. Maryland did not.

Klemm had a very veteran line to work with. Palcic had a brand spanking new line to work with. One would be very hard pressed to make comparisons given the enormous variables and differences both coaches faced. There are just too many variables to come to a solid conclusion about the last two years and the different Oline coaches.
Palcic' Oline definetly improved over the year. GG QB draw for a 70+ yards TD was a thing of beauty. The receivers took their man to man coverage to the sidelines and deep. And the Oline picked up the blitz and created the largest running lane I have ever seen in 45+ years of watching SMU football. I don't believe that line could have pulled that off early in the season. I believe there is potential for our Oline to get much better next year.
Regardless, a great Oline recruit is always welcomed.

My gut feeling is that while Klemm was far and away the better recruiter, Palcic is a better coach.

Interesting - the feeling of most that know a little bit about College Football is that SMU got screwed in the trade. Palcik got fired and Klemm by far is the most popular Coach on the UCLA campus-he's already a cult figure out there

You think Klemm's a better coach?

Not even close.
