I believe that JJ was a great hire, initially, but I feel like he's wasted opportunities here when it comes to recruiting. I thought he was the right person for the job when hired, and I was surprised and excited when he was announced. However, recruiting isn't where it needs to be. A topic that has been thoroughly discussed on here.

I felt that by year 5, we'd be competing for conference championships, not getting beat by Rice and Tulane, and have top 40 or so recruiting classes. I also envisioned a high-flyin' exciting offense and unfortunately, that hasn't happened, either.

I do give JJ credit for Mason and for Larry Brown.

It appears to me that JJ has plateaued with an inconsistent product on the field at as one of the highest paid coaches in football, I expect more.

Contrast what Larry Brown has done in year one with the bball team. I think most, if not everyone, feels that a great foundation is being set with the bball team. I don't know many who feel the same way with the football team, which makes me sad.
No Distress in football, we're riding a 26 year high, and still looking up :!:
May the forth be with us.

If June hadn't seen Zach's potential, he would have been a second team linebacker...

Just to echo what others have said on here, it's been a real pleasure watching Zach since that Hawaii Bowl win several years ago. Hard work, dedication, and discipline still mean something to some today - congrats Zach!

absolutely amazing that we have some 'fans' who think 6-6 is riding high and still looking up.
And we wonder why people don't fill the stadium? Dallasites and most SMU fans will not support mediocrity and substandard performance. Yes we are looking up- looking up to Tulane and Rice. WOW!

Congrats Zach! I'll miss watching you punish defenders on the field. Hard work pays off!

Best of luck moving forward!!

Great work Zach. And he would no doubt have been one of our best Linebackers too of he had played defense. Very deserving.

It has been great watching him play and it will be great following him when he goes to the pros.

Add his name to the list of all time great Mustangs. It is a very special list.

Lol. Let's be reasonable. EVERY team loses some games they shouldn't have.

It's clear it's time to move on to a new coach this year or next. I"m kinda thinking this year is best, but would be ok keeping June through next season if contract hangups dictate. Until then, why the hell publicly denegrate the coach at every turn? Does that help ANYTHING other than to satisfy some sick desire to [deleted] and whine all the time?

You people really do suck the fun out of being on this board sometimes.

PB- first, where was the coach even mentioned in my post? Only the most inane would say that this season was successful and looking up. We are not at a 26 yr. high. Other past coaches (yes, I will now mention the word coaches) have posted a record just as good as we did this year.

If responding to a post that was incorrect is beatching and whining then so be it.

It amazes me more that you dispute that! In the words of Jeff Reinebold, we're not where we want to be but we're much better than where we were. Like it or not, you cannot dispute that we are in our best stretch since receiving the death penalty. We all want more, I get that. Losing to Rice and Tulane is not acceptable, but how is it that we are merely 48-41-1 all-time against Rice and 8-13 all-time against Tulane. June Jones is 3-2 against Rice and 3-2 against Tulane. I would have liked to for him to be 4-1 against both of those teams but it didn't happen. Let's keep improving and enjoy the ride because it sure is better than 4-6, 3-9, 4-7, 3-9, 0-12, 3-8, etc.

Our winning percentage in the 20 years after the DP was 28 percent. Of course we had zero bowls during that period. In the last four seasons we are winning 56 percent of our games and have been invited to four bowls. That's pretty damned good by anyone's definition.

I don't think "riding high" is appropriate either though. I don't see us getting any better from here out. So in that sense you're right. But drumbeat, snide comments do not help anything.

We are riding high, we just aren't trending up which is the reason I am open to a change. Financially speaking I wouldn't do it, but it's not my money.

I consider Alabama, aTm, Ohio St. etc. as riding high- winning programs that continue to win. Us- not so much. However, to each his own.

financially speaking I suspect if jj is here the rest of this year that season tickets and MC donations will drop. Conversely with a new high profile coach they would jump significantly. JMHO

We've never had the fan support that teams like Alabama, Ohio State, etc. get. For that very reason, it will be very difficult for SMU to ever achieve the success Alabama is having under Nick Saban. If you were a little more realistic you'd probably be happier in life.

Ha. I am very happy in life. I have always strived to be an over-achiever and have always set high goals. Most of the time I made them, some times I missed but always exceeded other expectations.
Oh, BTW there is small private school which seems to be able to be at the top of sports programs- I believe it is called Stanford. I guess their fans have unrealistic expectations as well.

Now- this conversation has gotten totally off topic. So in honor of Zach let's move this conversation to a new thread if you want. thanks
