It's time for SMU to get its act together behind new leadership. It's time for Gerald Turner to treat athletics like he treats everything else on campus: Nothing less than world class is acceptable. It's time to get George Bush involved and these big-money people off their asses to start campaigning.

It's time to cut bait with June Jones and bring in a dynamic coach who will embrace SMU and its possibilities -- as opposed to an emotionally distant, overpaid coach relying on a system that is long outdated. We flat out STUNK on offense this season. Simply AWFUL.

Let's be honest, June's a goner after next season. With one year left on his deal after the 2013 season -- which could be a 2- or 3-win nightmare -- they will either have to extend him or cut him loose. Get ahead of the curve. Show him the door on Dec. 26.

Chad Morris has somehow, inexplicably, slipped through the cracks with all of the SEC openings. He is primed for a head coaching gig in the state of Texas. He makes $1.3M at Clemson, well within our budget.

C'mon, folks, did anyone think West Virginia was going to "save" the Big 12? They will need to add schools and it will be tough for them to raid the ACC -- or any other conference -- at this point.

If Turner and his band of merry billionaires are not prepared to make this world class, we should wrap things up and play Division III ball. Let's go, folks. Let's go. Now. Today. Big 12 or bust.

Amen, bro. Should've been our singular goal since '95.

And that's a mistake. Regional always has been key and is still the future.
College football will never be simply an ESPN video game.

Feel free to let us know how you think we will be going undefeated and to a BCS bowl anytime soon.

Sorry guys, but SMU will never be in the Big 12..... Baylor and Tech will go back to home and home now that Baylor is building their new stadium and since both teams will be playing in Ft Worth every other year so they no longer need a neutral site game in the DFW for recruiting. The Big 12 when or if they expand will expand east.

SMU can thank the boosters in the 80s for causing the death penalty along with a relatively small enrollment and not having enough political clout in the 90s(like Baylor and Tech) for now being a have not. The only way that changes is if y'all get the hell out of the BE and get into some kind of reformed MWC and then win that conference several times with 10-11 win seasons and then the PAC might be willing to take a look at y'all even with the religious affiliation(which several of the liberal west coast schools have issues with) just ask Baylor how Cal and Stanford felt about a religious affiliated school coming into the PAC....

Also you will have to start getting more than 25K in the stands to show that your school and fan base is serious about college football.

At least someone here is making sense.

The only scenario where we would get a Big-12 invite is if the conference is forced to play defense to protect its media markets and recruiting footprint. The only way that happens is if we are courted by the SEC or Big-10. The ACC is not a threat because if they took us the Big-12 could trump them by taking FSU and Clemson. But they don't have that leverage with the SEC or Big-10. And the full consequences of letting A&M go and giving the SEC a foothold in Texas are just starting to become apparent. If the SEC or Big-10 come sniffing Around then the Big-12 would have to strike first and invite us.

Now this of course begs the question of how we could get the SEC OR BIG-10 to court us. Bottom line. . . They won't.

Wow, did everyone miss the real point here?

It's time for a new coach. Now. Today.

And Chad Morris is sitting there, ripe for the picking.

June was brought here to get us into the Top 25. He has not sniffed it. The team is only a small notch better than Phil Bennett's best teams. Bowl appearances are overrated in the 6-7, 35 bowl game era.

You get paid $2.1M per year, you should be kicking [deleted] in Year 3. See Brian Kelly at ND. That place was a mess. Not saying we should be No. 1, but not 90th in total offense and losing key players for 2013.

You're right but the fact that June will be getting at least one more season here is evidence of this program's commitment to mediocrity. If he somehow gets us to a bowl next season he'll be getting a contract extension.

Clearly, the Big XII has already been invaded by the SEC via A&M. So, that's no longer a concern. The two conferences which would scare them are the B!G and the Pac-12. Until we're invited to the AAU, the B1G isn't interested. So, that leaves the Pac-12. Right now, I think we have four choices to make. (1) Try to put together some coast to coast conference of leftovers; (2) Go back to CUSA or MWC if they'll have us. (3) Indy; (4) FCS.

The Big 12 does not want more than 4 teams in Texas. They were not an option for us, and won't be an option. Unfortunately I am not sure what we will be able to do, with an anemic fan base, stagnant program, and no major political clout I am afraid we are stuck. I have a nightmare vision of dropping out of the FBS.

everyone keeps claiming that the big 12 would never take another texas team, but they had no problem in adding TCU, who clearly doesn't "expand the market".

The reason the SEC is so successful is partially because of the regional rivalries that have built up. If bama or lsu played teams from the west coast every week, I don't think the rivalries would be nearly as big.

Regional rivalries are king, whether or not those making TV contracts see it that way. Eventually the craze of expanding markets will swing the other way, I believe, as watching Texas - West Virginia really makes no sense at all. Texas-SMU, when both teams are doing well, is a matchup that tons of more people in Texas are interested in.

Is there one good non-regional rivalry out there?? Not that I can think of...

edit: ND-USC maybe?

And the only way to let the admin know that people feel this way is to not buy season tickets and not support the MC. The only thing RGT understands is $$$$. Even a small dent will get his attention. One more year with the non-recruiting tiki god will destroy us for at least 5 years into the future.
