FWIW I know first hand of cheating that occured at Arkansas and Rice in the 70's. No one cared about investigating Rice and no one wanted to go to Fayettville to investigate.

FWIW, I also know of cheating that occured at Arkansas in the 80's, and first-hand of cheating that occurred at Rice earlier, the player told me so.

Go independent, custom schedule some: Big 12 games, higher profile winnable games (bad majors), local rivals, high interest teams that can fill Ford (OK nothing can do that. Yet.) , and maybe even one game as an SEC punching bag.
Sacrifice the TV money, and create some local and maybe national excitement around the program. Then let the conferences come to you for the all mighty Dallas media market.
Not a perfect idea, but beats yet another conference schedule drawing 5,000 home fans and some opponents no one cares about. Think outside the box.
Good luck getting games in late Oct / Nov

SMU needs to have regional rivals on their schedule to build attendance.
The original SWC teams would help. UNT would help. Going independent would be stupid.
Going to the Big 12 or even PAC 12 would be okay. Staying in the Big East if it survives would also be okay.

Well yeah. But it looks like the Pac 12 and Big 12 aren't calling any time soon, the Big East is falling apart, and we are drawing about 5,000 fans a game going the direction we are going. Independent has some problems, but it might be an option to consider.

Here's what we need in the near future. We need to be a GREAT partner for the BE. We need to make the annual TCU vs SMU game into the BE vs BIG12 and have the Metroplex (&the USA) watch SMU beat the BIG12. We need to do the same with Baylor, A&M, etc. We need to be the team other teams fear. That would help both the BE and SMU.

Based on what you've seen under June Jones........do you see this happening? How's his record against the Big12? Hard to see him doing the job that Patterson did at TCU while they were a mid-major or the coaches at Boise St the last few years.

Jones won't be here after next year. We will see then whether Hart is just an RGT yes man or a guy who is willing to go out and get the best damn coach possible for SMU.
