not joking at all; for many of those kids, this will be their only chance to see Hawaii.
Gee, all they gotta do is win 6!!!
(SWC SMU is very dead now.)
SMU_Alumni11 wrote:I notice they lowered season ticket prices.
No they didn't. Mine are exactly the same price as this year. In fact, since we only have 6 home games next year, they effectively raised prices.
Don't we have 6 home games mostly every year?
Yes, we typically have 6 every year. This year we had 7, and our ticket prices went up from 2011. Next year, same price as 2012 and back to 6 home games.

Really? I have found just the opposite. When I mention to non-SMU people that we may need a new coach...every single one of them have have been like "what?...after what he's done for ya'll? Hasn't he turned SMU around?"....4 straight bowls....blah blah.
I think outside of the SMU crowd...June is still thought of as a positive for SMU and someone that has brought some credibility back to the program.
I think most people on the "outside" are not really aware of the possible recruiting failures and other problems that some of us are worried about. They see SMU as being a loser for the last 20 years and June turned us around.

It would take an extreme scenario, like C-USA not having enough bowl eligible teams to fill its allotment so the Hawaii Bowl gets punted off to an at-large and we're bowl eligible but our conference has too many bowl-eligible teams for its allotment and we're the odd man out leaving us available to be selected as an at-large.
Thanks didn't even realize that there was even a possibility. Given how remote the chance is, June statement is a little disappointing. Saying that to be nice is one thing, but it just reinforces the conventional wisdom that he cares more about Hawaii's best interests rather than SMU's. Not a smart PR move by JJ.

doesn't care who wins.

Not hard at all to see why the players love the bowl.

I dunno maybe it's because I'm on the tcu side of the metroplex so they know even with fatter sons help we still suck... I wish I could meet these people so I can knock some sense into them... Getting trounced by Baylor, AM, and losing to Tulane and rice should get any person on the fire JJ bandwagon

I have been to Hawaii twice nothing special, I take San Diego. Great weather, don't feel isolated, cheap. I just don't get the thought process though. Why not want tougher bowls and teams o get recognized, to get nfl status then you can go to Hawaii 4 times a year if you like

I totally agree ICP. Most football fans have NO idea what really is going on and that includes sportswriters that don't focus on SMU. I have to explain to the casual observer what is really very consistent mediocrity with no hope for a rising sun for SMU. Next year the masses will really understand what has happened because of weak recruiting and no creativity on offense.....unfortunately.
