Offer Marquette and Georgetown a good deal, and the other teams have absolutely nothing to stand on.
When the BE was formed back in the early 80's, those schools were some of the top programs in the country. Rick Pitino was coaching Providence at the time, I believe.

The BE started in '79 and I don't believe Pitino coached Providence until the mid 80's. You still have many in the northeast that follow college basketball (and old BE) pretty closely.

Thanks for the correction SMU Pony Mom, I was at SMU at that time and those college days are a blur and well you know...

After SDSU departure, here are Aresco's comments:
Either way, here is Aresco, knowing only a television deal will stanch the bleeding -- for now, at least. A league meeting in Dallas last week was helpful for everyone because there was an all-in mentality among the existing members face to face, Aresco said.
"It's been a pretty rough couple of months," Aresco said. "I do think things will settle down. You'd like it sooner than later. When I got the job, a lot of things needed to be attended to. In this environment, you can't expect solutions to be immediate. Part of settling it will be how we deal with it.

Relieved by the SDSU departure. No further west than Dallas unless we have a chance to pick up the AFA.

Deloss Dodds from the DMN yesterday -
Chuck Carlton - A lot of people thought conference realignment had finished. Then the Big Ten added Maryland and Rutgers. How closely are you watching the national landscape?
Dodds - Absolutely you watch that and think about it and plan around it and think about your own conference, the Big 12. The Big Ten added geography and markets. I don’t know about the SEC and if it might react by going to 16. I don’t know if the Big Ten will go to 16. We’re very happy with 10. It works for us geographically, it works for us financially and it works for us competitively.

Yes, and he often does. Sweet gig Oklahoma & Texas have carved out for themselves financially & competitively. In DeLoss' little world, all Texas has to do is beat OU and they are in the coming playoff every year.
The Grant of Rights seems iron clad, but I'm skeptical of this. The partnership with the SEC with the Sugar bowl was a stroke of genious. Seems that the SEC & Big 10 str dead set on marginalizing the ACC - good job big 12.
