surprising bench results - you would think knowing the scouts think it a big deal you would live under a bench since the last whistle of the season.

Why do these numbers surprise anyone? He's a small guy who never was very fast. He got open because he's quick and changes directions well, but he never ran away from anyone. Cole Beasley did 17 bench reps last year and was called a freak. Honestly, 4.5 is a little faster than I expected for DJ.

What's really hard to understand is the comparison to Aldrick Robinson in that profile. Is it just a cop-out comparison because they're both short and from SMU? Al was (is) a sprinter who gets by DBs on pure speed, while DJ is incredibly smooth when cutting and changing directions. I'm not badmouthing either. They both had very good careers for SMU, and both have been great to watch. But they're nothing like each other.

Also, Aldrick got better each year, and it would be tough to make that claim for Darius.

These numbers pretty much kill his shot at being drafted but as we've seen with several of our current NFLers being drafted isn't the only way into the NFL.

Darius Johnson of SMU has been getting tons of love from the new England Patriots

Top 5 shuttles: Moe, Patton, Austin, Wheaton, Rogers. Darius Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins finished with worst shuttle times.

Very poor combine for DJ. Slow 40 and slow shuttle. Now I guess we know why our receivers couldn't get any separation this year.

New England would be a crazy good fit for him. That's a team that recognizes talent and knows how to use a slot receiver.

DJ did not have any All-star game invites and SMU's Pro-day is end of March ... I think he found out sort of last minute he was headed to the combine. I wounder if he got caught healing up before the big push for pro-day. It's not that important for the 225 rep, but you would think and hope a D1 WO would be able hit double diggits. I think Cole did 18 at pro-day. I was also surprised on his times and low vertical. He's got 4-5 weeks for pro-day, f he can turn it around, he'll get looks . The success of those before him and JJ will help if he can.

Beasley did 17 reps ( :) ) ... only two less than Kelvin Beachum, Jr. Beasley is an unbelievable athlete.

Not sure what to make of the idea that the Combine snuck up on DJ. He has known since he got through helping the Ponies thrash Fresno State that it was time to train for the Combine, Pro Day, etc. He is what he is: a far better football player than he is athlete.

But Cole's 40 time was also in the 4.5+ range ... but his vertical was 38", I don't recall his shuttle time, but I think in the spring he timed 3.93 in the 20yd shuttle (real god time). Translation ... more quick than fast ... which I think is true.

Disappointed for DJ. Did he get an injury his junior year? He's not the same guy.

It's easy to fall off when you don't have Sanders, Robinson and Beasley drawing defensive attention.
