I certainly do not mean to imply either would make money. But at least a track team would help in football recruiting as it did in the past. I would agree that I do not see anything being added.

It would help to offer football players an off season competitive outlet that also enhances their skills...
Big malfunction not having it, IMO.
A search of past SMU track teams turns up a lot of talent:
Michael Carter, pretty sure Bobby Leach sprinted...did Jerry Ball throw the shot, too?
Margus Hunt came here/ somewhere for track.
Be interesting to see the relationship between today's football powerhouse programs and track & field..

Jeff Atkins was a HS track star too. Only played football at SMU as I recall. What a sad waste of talent though.
Go Ponies!

Kevin Garrett, Jonas Rutledge, Chris Cunningham, and Trey Griffin were all on the team while I was there. Matt McKinney who was on the track team, was ranked as a 3 star football player by rivals, but chose not to play football.

From my around my era off the top of my head: Rod Jones, Michael Carter, Joe Phillips, and the Ware brothers. I am sure I am missing a few more.

wonder why a WR doesn't run the 100 or 200 Meters although those Gulf Coast schools are loaded in track. His Triple Jump of 44'8" would probably make him competitive at a Texas state level for Top 10 or so.

That 42.07 time is in the 300m hurdles!!!
To put the 42.07 into perspective, my son runs JV track in Frisco. At the district meet yesterday, he finished third in the prelims. The kid who finished first ran a low 42 and cannot make Celina's varsity team.

Kind of surprised you are posting these times and results. They seem kind of average at best. Of course if it is some 6 ft 4 inch 270 lb lineman running the 11 flat 100, 44 ft triple jump or 40.50 300 hurdles then that is news.

I've commented on the ones I think are competetive on a state wide level and which ones really aren't. I pointed out Ja=gard Davis and Greenbauer beat some of these Hurdle times. (actually Greenbauer discussion was on Scout). The Triple Jumps by JMarcus (in March) and Colbert (a junior) aren't bad. The 400 Meter times by Jesse Montgomery should be very competitive in the state 3A track meet. I'm not a big fan though of football recruits running 400 Meters-if they really had elite speed for football they would run the sprints. Braylon Hyder's throws are significant mainly because they show continued improvement for a Junior. Most of the Relay kids aren't even the top sprinters at their school because they are relagated to competiting in Relays not as point scorers in the indidual 100 Meter or 200 Meter. Last week was the first time I even saw3 a 100 Meters time for any of the kids running Relays-and Lancaster seems to hover slightly above or below 11.00- which is not competitive on a statewide level. Been looking for a Shelby Walker time but he doesn't run individually. But winning medals at District, Area Meets are positives even if the times are not always great fr5om a Statewide perspectve. Bottom Line-they keep advancing past District, Area then I'll keep posting on Regional and State Meets. We got about 7 guys headed to the Regionals which is a significant accomplishment-can't remember that many lately. At least they aren't sitting at home on the Couch eating ice cream
