neither conference can say they are head and shoulders above the other, but at least everyone in the country might be made aware we played a game (not many folks on the east coast are even aware of night games played in the pacific and even mountain time zones by teams outside of the top 25)

If they could only do something to attract the Dallas area college football fan.......make them feel it is their team too and not just a football team at a snooty university.

Dallas likes winners, no one in town would give a [deleted] about how "snooty" SMU is if SMU was winning a lot. No amount of community outreach is going to make Dallas want to support a loser.

True, but it's this type of arrogant and snooty attitude that is holding us back from 99% of the Dallas community. Winning alone isn't going to solve the problem- we'll never attract the casual fan so long as the 'we're not snobs, we're just better than you' attitude persists. Perhaps we are what we are...

We definitely are who we are but that's not why our attendance is lousy. Casual fans like to be associated with winners, they're not going to start supporting some losing team just because they think the people from the school are nice.

it isn't the main problem, but it's an extra hurdle to overcome

Exactly. I know plenty of folks that take their families to a SMU football game for the love of college football. I also know plenty of folks that love to hate everything about SMU and when we're winning they hate us more because our fans get a big head and reveal their snootiness. We need to change that...

If we want to be Dallas' team why not change our name to 'SMU- Dallas' and put 'BIG D' on the back of our helmets. We need more 17 yr old hs kid from DFW that want to play for the hometown team. We're not the hometown team but we could be...

MWC still has about half of their football inventory and three-quarters of their basketball inventory left to sell. Plus they have yet to sell their CCG rights. It's also worth noting that Hawaii does not take a share of TV revenue as Hawaii keeps all the money from their PPV rights. So the MWC is only splitting the pie 11 ways.

Personally, I think the two conferences are about equal. It just depends on whether you prefer playing that collection of teams to the east or that collection of teams to your west.

I thought Boise state is getting a substantial amount of the pie so it's like splitting with 14 teams or something like that. Plus basketball is better than the conference I feel has a better rep than the MWC. There is no sense leaving and incurring a fee to leave. We are stuck till ACC or some conference wants to take a gamble to pick us up.
