I guess it would be more palatable if it were not for the apparent zero culpability of the previous handling of the sad sexual assault/suicide incident as well as the preventable death (negligent homicide? or something in that neighborhood) of their student videographer.

Often, schools kick kids out of school and allow them to come back after 1 year - see the Harvard cheating scandal.

If he got caught cheating and agreed to waive his rights regarding a hearing, a 1 year/semester suspension would not be unheard of for "normal" students.

Coach Kelly said that if Notre Dame reinstates Golson, "that's all I (Kelly) need."

Translation: Golson will apologize, take a class or two at a community college and Touchdown Jesus will forgive him, he will learn his lesson, and lo and behold, he'll be starting the first game of the year.

What I like is that if any of us did what he did, we cheated. When a high-profile athlete does it, he "used poor academic judgement." Life's fair.

If this were an smu player half of us would be happy when he came. Life ain't fair quit throwing stones.

If you don't like it, stop supporting the millions of $ thrown at sports in this country.

1) The local DA determined that there was insufficient evidence to charge the ND player. If the justice system can't convict someone, what makes anyone think a college is better able to determine what happened?

A few months ago, SMU kicked a student out of school after he was arrested for raping another man in a garage and a frat house. Later, the Dallas DA declined to charge him. Should SMU be commended for acting before the evidence came in? Was the Dallas DA right/wrong to drop charges? Did SMU do the right thing?

In my opinion, schools should leave criminal cases to the real justice system.

2). The video guy died after negligence by ND. While horrible, his death was the result of stupid conduct - not criminal.
