I would say those odds are so very small compared to pre-season practice getting hit by much bigger Juniors and Senior in college, and then of course there's the whole football season. SMU has lost many more players in pre-season than in All-Star games, I would venture to bet. Just look at last year with our defensive backs. It doesn't make for good logic to deny them the thrill of playing in an All-Star game.

We do not have that many players in all star games so it makes sense that we would lose more in pre-season. Your logic is a bit off. I think those coaches not letting their major players play in the might know more than you do since they actually coach at a high level. Just saying.

It has everything to do with schools refusing to allow their key recruits to participate especially if they have a shot to get on the field in 2013. Its been trending that way for the last few years. I think the Big 12 teams now just allow 1-2 recruits not likely to play in 2013 so they can still say theyu are supportijng the THSCA
Makes sense. When I saw JaBryce down on the sidelines it was very concerning until the announcers indicated that it may have been cramps. He was still limping after them game.

That's why I prefaced my comment with "relative" prowess and not apples-to-apples.

That being said:
> Still the fact that we have 5 kids in the game vs. (not many or any) in the past is probably meaningful.
> It is still great PR for the University. And the possibility that some other programs might not like their prized recruits playing in an All-Star game will be glossed over by 99% of fans and recruits who read stories about this game in the paper.
> It makes good fodder for recruiting as good players want to be on teams with other good players.

Of course, football coaches know more than I do, 86...except for JJ, who according to this board knows nothing.

Agreed at the end of the day JaBryce had an excellent game and carried the SMU flag while doing it and giving us more Publicity for future recruiting.

I've been wondering about Tyler Jones too. He had like 8-9 TDs in the State Championship game. Sounds like the perfect QB for Franchione's offense:

"Tyler Jones accounted for nine touchdowns, five passing and four rushing, to lead Stephenville to a 70-35 triumph over El Campo on Friday night in the Class 3A Division I state championship game in front of 17,655 at Cowboys Stadium.

Jones earned game MVP honors, completing 25 of 32 passes for 432 yards and gained 124 yards on 12 carries rushing to help Stephenville amass its largest offensive output of the season."
