I think SMU offered after he was injured.

He was offered in Spring after Odum saw him in their Spring practice before he was injured.

Nobody else worth mentioning in Texas seemed very interested even though these guys are kind of unusual because they allegedly runs in the 4.3s too. Two private school kids with about double the number of TDs as Jeanlys-yet they can not be characterized as highly recruited. SMU itself offered at least 12 receivers before these private school kids. We settle for these kids because we got outrecruited for the kids we liked better
I see what you are saying.

This is Stallion:

More often than not, you can make stats prove just about anything you want. If you want to go down that rabbit trail, which is a ridiculous waste of time, I could point out:

1) We are recruiting both Trae Hart and Kade Clayton. I don't know how high they are on our shopping list, but they are both on there, so your argument is essentially moot. If we offered Jeanlys before Hart or Clayton, there's probably a reason.

2) Anytime anyone tries to downplay athletes from smaller schools, you know you're going to get the obligatory, "Oh yeah, well ED went to tiny 2A Sealy High School where he ran for 2,642 and 37 TDs his senior year, and he turned out O.K."

3) If you want to play stats:
2012 Yards per touch: Jeanlys (24.4), Hart (18.9), Clayton (13.9)
2012 Pts. per touch: Jeanlys (3.1), Hart (1.6), Clayton (1.3)
Like I said, you can basically use stats to prove whatever you want. Jeanlys averages 30% more yards per touch than either Hart or Clayton, and is over twice as likely to score anytime he gets the ball.

4) And by the way, I should probably point out that since Odum is recruiting Jeanlys, he's probably being recruited primarily as a DB. The guys you're comparing him to are WRs. Do YOU Get it?

You're the one that brought up the stupid offensive stats in the first place. I think you are starting to get it. You can make stats mean anything you want especially in the Pee Wee leagues. Bottom line none of these monster stats from the YMCA mean a damn thing. My question is why we are looking so hard at guys from John Paul Academy, Tyler Grace Academy and First Baptist Academy and can't seem to find seem to find our way to Desoto, Lancaster, Cedar, Ennis and Ducanville

Because they're indicative of his athletic ability.

The argument would be that talent is where you find it, and in most cases, kids go wherever their parents send them (and parents pick schools for numerous reasons not always having to do with football). After having been run over by a monster RB from First Baptist Academy named Cedric Parsons enough times, I'm willing to give recruits coming from there the benefit of the doubt.

I think if I were going to argue your point, it would be that a kid who puts up monster stats at a TX or FL 5A school is a PROVEN commodity, and is therefore a safer choice as a recruit. Saying that a big school recruit is automatically better is a logic error (ala Eric Dickerson). However, saying the difference in level of competition between a Euless Trinity and college is going to be smaller than from say First Baptist Academy to college. So if your recruiting class is loaded with kids from small schools it may be cause for panic. But finding an exceptional athlete who happen to come from a small schools is good recruiting IMHO because they're harder to identify.

Along the same lines: Finding the original Leon Lett was good scouting on the part of the Cowboys. Jerry Jones trying to prove his genius by recruiting these diamonds in the rough year after year is just stoopid.

Jerry is to the NFL as June is to the college football. Egos getting in the way of proven methodologies for success within their fields.

Couldn't the same be said of June? Didn't Phil Bennet try the "diamond in the rough" approach to recruiting as well?

Doing it differently isn't necessarily an ego thing. Not saying you're this, but mainstreamers always have trouble making that distinction. Some people just see problems differently and therefore the solutions to problems differently. It's called innovation.

Tex was an innovator. Jerry not so much -- IMHO.

24 catches and 11 rushes are not that much during a season so that is not monster stats especially in a Florida 3A league equivalent to Texas 1A. . Since he is going to play DB for SMU the question to look at would be are the 89 tackles and 2 ints in that league monster stats in a league like that?

There are about 10 RETURNING players in Class 1A and 2A in Texas who ran for more than 2,000 yards last year and not one will get a scholarship. Do YOU Get it?
Come on Stallion. All of our recruits are super under-the-radar diamond in the rough elite prospects that only we know about because we have a secret scouting method no one else has ever thought of.
