Don't think it'll make a difference.

My 86 year old mother, who is an avid Mustang fan, made it through that Baylor game last year. If she can make games, why can't those who loiter on the BLVD do as well? I would love for AD Hart to use her to shame all of those drunken twits who stay behind on the BLVD and miss the game. Sorry if I offended any drunken twits on this board...Pony147 wrote:I've been in Ford a few times this week. By 7 all of the home side seats will be in the shade, and most of the field too. Anything will be better than that Baylor game last year...

I'm not trying to start anything and I hate to get off topic, but how many people do we think actually STAY on the vard and skip the game? I would put the number at way less than 1,000. Probably in the 200-300 range. I think folks grossly over count the number of people on the blvd. Overlay Ford onto the campus and imagine a two or three foot buffer between people (standing and talking as opposed to sitting in bleachers). At its absolute most crowded there are probably 10-12,000 tailgating.smumustang1980 wrote:My 86 year old mother, who is an avid Mustang fan, made it through that Baylor game last year. My main point is that I don't think there are thousands of fans who skip out on the game.

Let's see what happens at the Tech game... I can say this from personal experience - there are SMU students partying during the games and they never take the time to walk over to Ford for a free game. I've run into them and asked them why they stayed at home instead of supporting the team... Like many students, they are and remain apathetic despite the improvement in the team.smusic 00 wrote:I'm not trying to start anything and I hate to get off topic, but how many people do we think actually STAY on the vard and skip the game? I agree. Most of the people who are on the blvd pregame and do not go to the game are going somewhere else when the game starts, not staying on the blvd. It is not a matter of shaming them into going to the game, they are just their for the party.

exactly - people leave and go elsewhere when the game starts. Have no clue how many are just party go-ers and use the Blvd as a place to hangout with friends and kids.

If you drive to game through campus late-fans are streaming off Boulevard heading away from Ford. Its substantial.

I agree. It's not an insigificant number and many are SMU alum, not just unaffiliated persons. This is a problem everywhere (just talked to a TCU fan who said he usually goes for a quarter and then goes out to his tailgate spot to drink and bs with his friends). I would hope we can get to the point where we have actual football fans who care about the product inside the stadium...beating some BCS teams would certainly help.Stallion wrote:If you drive to game through campus late-fans are streaming off Boulevard heading away from Ford. The Baylor game last year was nothing compared to the game at A&M back in 2005. It had to be several degrees over 100, and it was a mid-day game. I was about to walk down the stairs and an older gentleman about 15 feet in front of me passed out walking down the stairs in the 3rd quarter. He fell face forward, and nailed his head on the steps and slid down the rest of the way. Thankfully, there were paramedics right there to help him.

Easily the toughest game I have ever been to. People were passing out inside the concessions area left and right. I can't imagine what the field temp was.

Re: Forecast: High of 102 on Friday
I noticed this AM that the updated forecast (at least from one Dallas local weatherman) is 103 for Friday.
Looks like my plan to wear a white dinner jacket might not be a great idea.
