My sales reps in the outdoor advertising industry tell me that video is a no go because of the potential liability. Digital billboards that change static messages 3 or 4 times a minutes are not a problem.

With digital boards you can change messages almost instantaneously -- think scores. I did a voter turnout ad on a digital board once that regularly updated the time left until the polls closed.

Mrs. Baird had a board on her bakery. No reason SMU shouldn't have a board on that site.

And it can be used to promote academic programs as well as athletics. Maybe that would get the Spanish Department behind the project.

We have the real estate, and have a building further north on 75 with an SMU logo. Why not find the right angle, to maximize views from down there in the 75 trench, use this building or a new location and run SMU events day and night? We have prime real estate, let's use it. The impact would be tremendous.

And, I don't mean something modest in scale - make it enormous. Make a statement. Run it 20 stories down that building or use that vacant spot right at the intersection... SMU... Football... Basketball... videos!
need a sign permit.

video screens require taking down other signs. does smu own any other signs?
