The tcu road win was fantastic and bowl wins were fun, but the program and
the student body need a big win on campus.
I would have thought ECU a few years back to clinch the first bowl in a couple decades.
If I am not mistaken, it was UTEP, but you are correct, that win was huge.

Alright, I am ready to concede and will reluctantly accept a 3-1 start to the season. 8)

I think Hoopfan meant biggest win at home for JJ.

UTEP game a few years back? Taylor Thompson sacked the QB on the last play. Probably the loudest I've ever heard Ford.

We need to go 2-2 in OOC - so if we don't beat Tech, we will have to beat TCU or TAMU on the road.

Its gotta be one of the top 3.

First road win at UAB and win against UTEP to go bowling come to mind as big games, but those were moving from perrenial dormat to where we are now.

I was hoping we would make a statement last year against someone good (TCU win not withstanding). It really needs to be now against Tech.

I was at the bowl-clinching UTEP win and yes it was fantastic, but attendance was 21,679 that day, because the casual fan had already been turned off by losses at Houston and versus Navy, a blowout at TCU, and, my personal favorite, a "pre-season" stinker at one of the worst BCS teams in the country that year (Washington State).

Getting back to the point of the thread -- it is CRITICAL that there be a morale- and attendance-building home win. I plan to have no voice left by tomorrow late night. :-)

I remember one game at home where we won to go bowl eligible. The last play, the other team tried to lateral a bunch and our guy picked up a fumble and threw the ball out of bounds into the student section. Anyone remember who we played?

Edit: It was Rice in 2009 to get to 5-4.

"1st and 10 at RICE 33 Nick Fanuzzi pass complete to Toren Dixon for a loss of 3 yards, fumbled, forced by Chris Banjo, recovered by SMU Chase Kennemer at the Rice 28."

I know everyone is excited, but this isn't important for JJ's staying here.
If we're being real, last year's finale against Tulsa was. Word on the street was several high $$ boosters were ready to pull their support if we lost and didn't make a bowl.
I want to win tomorrow, but no one outside of this board even thinks we have a chance.

Vegas seems to think we have a pretty good chance. Line has been moving towards SMU big time in the last couple of days.

I would put it this way. If we win, it will be huge. The most important games are conference games but this is a statement game and for many fans beating tech would be huge. If we lose we can still have a great season but it won't feel like it until later in the season. This is a way to feel really good right now. Lets do this.

i would like to think we have a good chance but past performance against bcs teams does not give me optimism.
i'm not flying to veagas to bet the farm on it.

Treadway21 wrote:It sets the tone for the season. Get blown out and everyone says AAC is the CUSA redux and same old SMU. It won't matter what we do in conference, because everyone in Texas will be judging us and the conference by how we do against Tech and TCU.

I think it has huge attendance implications as well. We need some momentum at the beginning of the season as opposed to the end of the season.
well said treadway, exactly. Baylor was well attended in SMU away sense and the sails all went out of any excitement for the year.

big game no doubt, of his SMU tenure, certainly not

Not sure how I messed that up.
