starting every season 1-3 takes the air out of the ball before we get started, with both fans and recruits. It is a very well proven failed recipe

Or
Actually starting to recruit gets us better recruits (see Larry Brown, or James Franklin at Vanderbilt, plenty others out there who were able to recruit with less-than-stellar attendance/win pct)
better recruits gets us bigger conference wins
recruits get even better
then we start beating the Big 12 teams on the schedule and get them afraid to play us.
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security
1. Get up off you [deleted] and act like being at SMU is the best place in the world and that you want to want to be here forever
2. Hi-jack a Circle of Champion member's jet and fly to the best recruits in the country and see SMU
3. Give your staff AMEX cards and have them drive rent-a-cars to every single major HS in Texas to meet with coaches and players
4. Lie, lie and lie some more
Improve recruiting? We have already filled next year's class with 2 star recruits. Because we only have 16 seniors the class is already full as we have 16 recruits when you count Barnes, who greyshirted. Hope they play better than their current rankings but that is a fact!
One more thing, the game with Montana State is no sure win. Currently they are ranked #2 in the FCS. These type of teams have, ALWAYS, given us problems.

We would be embarrassed in front of our home crowd and that does nothing to help build a fan base.
If we are going to get killed, lets do it on the road, for a big pay day, against a name brand team that will pay well and people won't be disappointed that we got slaughtered.
BU is still seen as somewhat in SMU's league when in reality they are way above us.

We would win more if we recruited better too. Wins against nobodies proves nothing and certainly would not make me feel any better. Right now all we are proving is that we still are not up to the level of our old conference mates and it is hell come the next day at work when alums from those schools remind you of it.
Would beating up on Sun Belt teams make you proud? I want us to beat up on teams other people think are good teams...not on spares.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
