These guys wont play this week and an extra week of rest with bye which is a shame esp for Shead bc he could use the exp against Montana st. I hope we aren't taking these guys lightly or we will get beat.

True, it would be nice to have them back, but I'd rather they sit out, get back to 100% and be ready for the bulk of the season.

Agreed. Then have them come back for tcu. Either back quickly for Montana st if 100% or just wait until tcu

Absolutely. But I'd also add that Prescott is in need of some extra reps. While the same could be said of Shead, Shead looked more comfortable and did a better job of turning nothing into something - which was pretty much all they were getting

I just assume Nlemichi has trouble with the blocking, because it sounds like he is a good runner. But I may be wrong.
Junior, watch the game if you have not. While my fiance said I was so stressed the entire time, I ended up watching it again. Felt good seeing the team in action. Score is worse than it really was IMO. At least if you take the 4th quarter away lol.

4th quarter or in general second half separates the mediocre and the great.

Tech is certainly not great. Sorry couldn't resist to say that!

Curious as to what you saw Shead do. He fumbled 2 out of 5 carries and could not turn the corner when he went wide. I never saw him turn anything into anything.

Yeah, I agree, Junior - I think you ought to watch it. I re-watched it on tv last night and thought it was a decent performance excepting the last 10 minutes. I thought Gilbert played pretty well (contrary to most people's thoughts), yet he had 4 inexplicable, bad passes; we also saw some nice running when he wasn't forcing it.
A lot of things easily could have changed/should have changed/should be expected to change (e.g. bad holding call, dropped in-the-hands int, bad def. pass interference call...). While retrospective speculation deserves little room in football, if you watch, you'll see they're not far-fetched, and you can't really predict the effect of SMU going into the 4th quarter ahead of Tech by 1-2 scores... We got beat pretty badly in the 4th, but MAYBE momentum, confidence, and play-calling from the lead would've affected the outcome. In either scenario, especially this one, we saw much work is needed, but personally I thought the adjustments looked more do-able than any SMU opener I've ever watched. (Doesn't mean we'll crack the top 25, if you expected it, though. However, I feel better about staying competitive against TCU than I did before - better conditioning to survive the 4th quarter is NECESSARY though (as is teaching receivers how to deal with hearing the footsteps coming and better work on blocking assignments))
Mrydel, I felt Shead never had a hole, but managed to turn backfield contact into 5-9 yard gains early on a few times. Unfortunately, much of the 2nd quarter was cut out of my dvr recording, but I do remember him not turning north around the end (coachable) and I remember the fumbles being gross (my hope was nerves or something b/c they looked odd from the stands, but I have no answer for that). Still, despite needing work, I thought I saw raw talent, though it was only 9 carries, 3 receptions. So that's what I thought... Then: Line may be able to develop his running, but he's further behind; I felt like I saw much less from his rushing, other than scoring two holes. It worried me, and thus, my comment

Is this game available to rewatch on ESPN3/WatchESPN? Was pretty drunk during the game and didn't have a good vantage point from my seats.

I’m not sure how anyone can write Shead off, or suggest "move-on" to the next guy after the first game and 8 carries (8 Carries) … with NO holes. What did I see?
1) 6"2" 230lbs on an athletic frame.
2) Power, had that one run for about 12 yards up the middle dragging about 2 guys for the last 4-5 yards,
3) Made the corner for about 5 yards before the angle pursuit got him
4) Caught a flair pass in the flat … completely left a smaller/quicker DB staring at air when he faked him out, turned the corner and brought it up the sideline and then lowered his shoulder and planted the poor sole that tried to take him on before being bounced out of bounds
5) Yep fumbled twice (we recovered … but not good), .. and looked up to soon on the other flair pass that would have been 6 had he not dropped it (a little low, but certainly catchable).
6) Days of 25-30 carries a game as has been the custom the last few years, are probably gone for good with Mumme.
That’s what I saw ... and I want to see more before I start claiming him a UT reject or Juco guy that no one wanted.
