The Bush Library is terrible. It looks like it was set up by a campaign consultant - just some shiny mail pieces promoting Bush. Nothing interesting about it. Go to the Meadows Museum. I went to both museums on Saturday. What a tragedy that there were only five people in the Meadows Museum and I had to wait to get into the Bush Library.
What in the hell did you expect there to be in the Bush Library? If you want Clinton then come to Little Rock. If you want Obama then you are just going to have to wait.
I enjoyed W's place very much. I cannot compare because I have not made it to any others yet including Clinton's but the Bush Library is a beautifully put together institution.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Be sure and head down to the arts district - Klyde Warren Park is great, and you've got the Nasher, the Perot Museum (more for kids, but a good visit if you have them), and you can take the short walk over to Victory to feel what it's like to be the only human being left on earth.

Wow.. How in the world did you find it terrible. I guess that "moderate" programming in Austin really did influence you.
I've always had great disdain for Austin and its people, too bad can't ship them all out of here to crazy state California.

Just today I heard a fella offer a suggestion to you folks in Texas regarding some of that left over building material that was intended for the southern border. His point was there ought to be enough left to build a fence all the way around Austin to keep them rascals in there. Sounded like a good recommendation to me.
Once I finished at SMU, I never lived another day in Dallas - and I'm a fourth generation Dallasite, too. After spending some time in Austin, it's easy to see why everyone I talk to in Dallas wants to live in Austin. SMU and The Ticket are the only decent things going for Dallas.

The Bush Library does not compare favoraby to other presidential libraries. It makes a feeble attempt to rewrite history and try to make W seem almost competent.

Love the pub it gave us (sort of) and hate to say this but I have to agree with this ^. I've been to JFK's, Roosevelt's, Clinton's, Reagan's, and Nixon's. Not even close.
Whatever. Haters gotta effing hate. The Bush Library has been an overwhelming success for SMU and as its own entity. Over 200,000 people have already toured the facility which is well above expectations. Also The Musers of 1310 The Ticket did a recap of their recent visit to the library this morning and all said it was hands down the best presidential library they have been to which includes Reagan, Clinton, and Bush 41. I can understand those that are not fans of Bush policy, but the facility and the grounds that surround it are simply spectacular. Having the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum on the SMU campus is RGT's finest hour and will be a feather in the cap for all of the SMU community forever.
Thanks guys for the recommendations and I think we will look into the Bush Museum. Also, what do you guys think of Fair Park? Worthwhile? and what places in Uptown are a must to see? Thanks guys and looking foward to the trip down tomorrow!
Once again, I have only been to two presidential libraries, Clinton's and Bush's. There is NO comparison! Bush is FAR above the glass and aluminum trailer here in Little Rock. Obviously some people's dislike of the person is influencing their judgment.
I'd hit these places/do these things if it were me:
Lunch or dinner at Banditos. This great Tex Mex restaurant very close to the SMU campus is a faithful representation of what Tex Mex is about. They've got dishes ranging from blue plate special (e.g. the Lone Star Plate) to gourmet (The BBP). And pick yourself up an old Southwest Conference T shirt while you're there. They sell 'em behind the bar.
Bush Library is a must see as is just a good walk around campus. You'll love SMU -- it's gorgeous and so different from Montana. It's where they filmed Born on the 4th of July, if you remember that Tom Cruise flick. The Meadows Museum is nice if you want to see a little on campus art. And you're not going to believe the tailgating action on the Boulevard. Truly classic take on the venerable art.
Like beer? Check out the Gingerman at 2718 Boll Street just north of downtown Dallas. It's fairly family friendly before 8pm.
I'd also recommend seeing downtown and the JFK asassination site. Park in the lot at the Ambit Energy log at 1801 N. Lamar and walk through the cool West End area over to the museum .

Pass on Fair Park. They are setting up for the Fair so you most likely will only have access to the museums on the perimeter (not worth potentially having your car broken into).
If you are bringing a kid, don't miss the Perot Museum. Get tickets in advance online, as they are known to sell out.
