If we lose in College Station or Fort Worth, there might be some who say they expect those results. I don't think you'll find anyone except the Hate-JJ Crowd saying they expected poor effort.

It's OK. We can agree to disagree. :)

So what will you JJ supporters say if they don't compete?

I want us to be better after the A&M game than we are today. I don't expect to win or even to keep it close. I do t think we can touch Manziel and he will spread us. I do expect us to put at least 28 points on the board. Less will be a disappointment.

We competed with tech and I hope we can compete with TCU. A&M is an excellent team and we are at their place.

I hope EVERYONE on this board expects us to play hard and put up at least 28 points. However, it would be nice if we could beat one or both of these teams. Perhaps everyone on this board could then get behind this team. They have a lot of work to do and two weeks to prepare.

I know you call me a JJ apologist, but you just base that on the fact that I expected us to struggle last year. The lack of talent we had come in three and 4 years ago on the offensive line and WR was going to catch up to us.

This year is different. Yes, we graduated people, but we have recruited much better on the defensive line and have the players to adequately replace them. We also have size, speed, athleticism at linebacker to run several deep. And the secondary has a lot more talent than has been at SMU in a long time.

Offensively, we have better players on the offensive line this season. Yes, still young, but they are better athletically, size and strength. GG is better, and we have better depth at WR.

Going into the season I expected us to be improved offensively (which we are), and also pretty good defensively (because we theoretically fixed our biggest weakness, the secondary).

After the first two games, I am as concerned as everyone else with the play of the offensive line. Rice, Lasecki and Ashcroft have been disappointments. Defensively, the performance of our linebackers in pass coverage has been frustrating. Up until Rambo got hurt we were okay, but the hole he has left has been shocking. And the play of the linebackers in the running game was concerning this week as well.

Losing Shead to injury is a big deal, but we have Line and KC, and should be fine. We lost Rambo, but we should be deep enough at LB to cover for him. But the combination of Henderson/Bordano and Sanders in pass coverage is proving challenging.

I have seen practice and the players and still have strong expectations for the season, regardless of the play on Saturday. I think we can all agree our offense isn't that bad, and when you watch our defense dominate our offense at practice, our defense shouldn't be bad either.

I still expect us to go 6-2 in conference. If we go 6-6 on the season, I would consider that to be a disappointment.

That said, there is no way Jones will get fired if we make it to a fifth straight bowl game.

If he does not go to a bowl game I don't think he gets fired because we do not have the money to pay the buyout. Buy the way you predicted SMU to go 9-3 for the season and you say you still expect us to go 6-2 in conference? Did you expect us to go 3-1 in OOC to get to 9-3?

I can see a 6-6 team with another good bowl win since we seem to only play very well in the bowls and fix the offense by then :)

The talent gap between A&M and SMU in 1994 was greater than it is this year. And those that saw the A&M-SMU game that year know the end result...
