The problem areas would center on sports like kayaking where you'd need to build a artificial run for them (since the Trinity in summer is about a foot deep). Certainly with Jerry World, Cotton Bowl, FC Dallas Field, Ford, Field at Arlington, AC Stadium, TCU baseball field, Westcott, Moody, AAC, TCU Fieldhouse, UNT football stadium, UNT gym, UTA gym, Equestrian Center, SMU Tennis Center. Lots of facilities already present. Lots of dorms and hotel space.

In US other cities that have similar facilities would include Baltimore/DC with FedEx and MT Bank, Navy Marine Corp. Byrd Stadium, DC Stadium, Nats Park, Camden Yards, natural kayak runs on Potomac, Georgetown facilities, GW's arena, American U Arena, Catholic U arena. Lots of dorms and hotels. Shooting range for the biathalon might be sketchy due to so many secured areas. They'd have to send them out to WVa. Sailing on Chesapeake or Atlantic Ocean.

although I definitely think it would be good for SMU if Dallas got it.
As potential Olympic bidders, Dallas and Houston will need to defend why the hot August weather is not a problem. Candidly, an outdoor competitor in any middle/long distance endurance event will suffer badly in the heat and humidity (primarily Houston) during the peak of summer heat.
Olympics are not required to be in any particular month.

Tokyo, Seoul, Mexico City, Sydney all in September. Melbourne in November (obvious reasons). No reason Texas couldn't host in late September or early June. But these things don't work out for cities anymore like they used to.

Or maybe the area between Portland and Salem, OR. You easterners are so limited in your geographical thinking.

I attended the Hotlanta games and the heat and, especially the humidity were terrible for athletes and spectators. As for timing, August is the most practical month for a North American games, due to approaching school schedules and competing sporting events, so avoiding September makes sense. BTW, Melbourne was 1956 and the world expect Summer Games in the summer.

As for the suggestion to have them in Oregon, i.e. Portland to Salem (Willamette Valley, including Corvallis and Eugene, both University towns) would be perfect weather-wise in the US in August. But, Portland would struggle with shear size of the event.

I think you are forgetting Sydney 2000.

Yes, but the Games were held 15 September and 1 October 2000 vs. November for Melbourne in 1956

Really? I would think Dallas is more international/centralized/metropolitan than Houston. And Dallas can offer SMU and TCU facilities, which right now are better than UH/Rice IMO.

Cowboys Stadium/Cotton Bowl > Reliant/Astrodome
AAC and Toyota are about the same
Not sure about public transportation in Houston, but DART is pretty effective for Dallas
Don't know how hotel rooms breakdown by city, but I think Dallas is more accessible in terms of air travel
Centralized? Dfw is not.

Houston has a leg up on this. Uh rice will have equal or better facilities than smu / TCU. Look, reality is that everything is pretty much within the loop. Including the amazing compass field - dynamo stadium. So you have rice, dynamo, uh (new) a huge downtown. How many consulates does Dallas have? Houston has got like 50 or some crazy number. Only 3rd to NYC and dc on this.

Point is - Dallas, don't count on it. Houston has a hard enough time getting it, and we have all our facilities within a 8 mile radius. And soon to be equal light rail limes.

It's a dream. Houston gets it before Dallas though.

I think the biggest issue with Houston will be the weather...the humidity in Houston makes it one of the most miserable places in the summer. You have a point about the consulates.

Houston also has the benefit of Galveston for water sports.

Have read multiple times that the major networks have little interest in the Summer games being hosted in what they consider 2nd tier cities, they want cities with a huge international appeal.

Money drives this and for the US, this means NYC, LA, SF...maybe Chicago, DC, Boston, Miami.

Remember reading one article specifically that quoted an exec who said, 'we won't make the Atlanta mistake again'. IMO, Dallas is more Atlanta than the cities I mentioned above.

I agree Houston is ahead of Dallas on the list of impossible Olympic bids, and Houston is light years ahead of Dallas in stadiums and sports infrastructure, but this line is simply laughable!

Yes, but Houston is a squalid dump.

Houston is projected to have 73 miles of rail by 2025. Less than Dallas has today.

Agreed - Dallas does not have the capability to host sailing events. None of the other cities that have hosted have been 5 hours from a major body of water (and no White Rock Lake is not a major body of water)

I'm not sure why this thread is actually as serious as it is. Dallas is not getting a serious Olympic look any time soon. Or even 2024.
