If SMU would have hired Leach, you can kiss Craig James's money and lobbying goodbye.

Yes, I remember that. before that incident I didn't realize Leach was a pr*ck.

Craig James? Isn't he the guy who fancied himself a U.S. Senator but couldn't buy himself enough votes to even get in a runoff? Didn't he try to get Leach fired in some puffed-up pique over the alleged treatment of his son at Tech? And, just recently, didn't he lose his broadcasting job at Fox Sports over some intemperate remarks about gays?
Geez, in public comparison, James almost makes Leach look like an intelligent, laidback gentleman, IMO. Furthermore, there have never been any rumors that Leach received monies that resulted in the SMU DP.
But, you're probably right about RGT.

Haha, Craig James never said anything negative about gays other than expressing a religious-based opinion that that lifestyle choice was not ultimately a good one. Do we no longer get opinions in this country that conflict with Hollywood's?
Yes, Craig did probably did own some of the fault in the Leach situation. Not all of it, but some.
Anyway, nice way to treat a former SMU great.

You can have whatever opinion you want that doesn't mean there aren't consequences for having it. Sounds to me like Fox Sports just expressed its opinion of his comments.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

Sorry, that arrived in 1989.

For what it is worth, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has a religiously-based opinion that Israel should be wiped from the face of the Earth; that conflicts with Hollywood's opinion. Whatever; I really don't want to get into one of those "Dallas" political discussions.
In the court of current public opinion, it is what it is: James was undeniably a great football player for SMU, but his subsequent off-the-field exposure surely seems to have diminished his public likeability quotient; Leach is a good coach, he seems to be quickly reviving a moribund PAC12 football program, and he will likely reap the popularity and respect benefits, unless he screws it up.
Anyway, the question was whether or not RGT would have hired Leach. The answer is, no, because Leach is much too smart to have taken the job. I can't imagine Leach dealing with the myriad petulant and entitled SMU alums. Pirates just don't play well with Ponies.

I don't think Leach is as bad a bottom feeder as Jack Pardee.

Re: Stay classy Mike Leach
Leach coached WSU in 2012 - had a horrible year, and has beaten two terrible teams, plus a pretty crummy USC by 3. He has done nothing yet to call it a revival.
He is a known jerk. I cant imagine him interacting with SMU alums either, because we don't accept jerks. Arrogant and distant is no problem, but not active, in your face jerks. And if he is so smart why did he get wiped off the floor with his silly law suit?
James is not my favorite guy, but he was right about Leach. Ill leave the politics to a different board.

Hire Leach....didn't we sell our souls in order to win in football once before and ended up with the DP?

In 1976, with a 56-3 lead, late in the fourth quarter when the lowly Mustangs mounted a drive that threatened to get within field goal range, Paul Bryant sent back his 1st team defense to shut the Mustangs down and preserve the 53 point margin of victory.
The only difference is Meyer didn’t say anything about it to Bryant and Bryant didn’t resort to foul language to express his feelings. Both men seem to consider it nothing more than a football game.
Paul "Bear" Bryant?
Yes.
That's a pretty ballsy statement

Sportsmanship is in serious decline. I'd rather lose than have a coach like that.
