We did some of that back in the Mike Ford days I believe. Having a Ford Mustang QB helped.

I agree, "Chrome" is opposite of what we want to represent.leopold wrote:Tacky
The Southern Methodist University that I went to has classier style than that.
Now classic 80's blue jerseys? That's what I'm talking about!

Chrome is sharp, classy, modern, and clean. Nothing wrong with that.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on that one....

It is a generational thing.
No offense to you TWALV - but I care more about what the players/recruits want than what the alums think. They deserve to have something fun (it would only be for one game a year!) to look forward to wearing. Just my $.02

give me a break! enough with that elitist, pompous attitude. they look awesome and most importantly the kids eat this up all day. good looking unis/helmets do wonders on the recruiting front. not to mention snazzy unis are great pubTWALV33 wrote:I agree, "Chrome" is opposite of what we want to represent.leopold wrote:Tacky

I say go back to the blue uniforms and white pants and keep the helmets the same.
But, have a "pro combat" type uni one game a year with chrome helmets, silver piping, funky numbers, silver pants, etc. The players and recruits will love it and the purists can hold their nose for one game.

I don't mind the pro combat and crazy unis for one game....
just never been crazy about chrome....if we end up doing it, I'll of course be behind our team, just not a fan

Perhaps a RED/Crimson chrome or glossy helmet but hardly chrome, please.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

I just think Ford Motor Co. may like the look of a chrome mustang helmet for a big college football game on TV- they could really market the heck out of that and maybe use it to introduce a new product or local DFW dealerships or something like that.
I'm a lawyer, not a marketing expert - so I'll defer to those in that business.
Just an idea.
Re: Hey SID - TULSA had crome helmets last night...
I've said all along I don't have a problem with us changing helmets, just make it attractive. Right or wrong, I'm not crazy about that design, and TU's flat out stinks.
Putting chrome on our standard helmet, to me, is like taking a brand new top of the line luxury car and putting in a leopard skin interior, or lowering it, or a gaudy gold-plated grill - think Tony Montoya trying to impress Michelle Pfeiffer's character on Scarface - "Issa Cadillac."

By the way, I'm a recent graduate....
But still from a football recruits standpoint I get what your saying. But hey, my opinion is SMU has its own style, and I like it, I like uniqueness not compliance.....just because the flavor of the day is flashy, doesn't mean everybodys got to do it....
As long as we keep conservative styling for our normal jerseys, I could survive one game of something crazy, but I'd prefer if we went that route to do something retro or do black jerseys or something like that....not chrome, not a fan
