I think you will see it this week. Also, Rutgers was able to beat Arkansas by putting 8 in the box to stop the run. They will not be able to do that with us. If we can get any type of a running game going ( BIG IF) we can win.

But not having played a conference game yet I think it only fair to see how GG will perform and how we stack up. If things begin to slide then you should make a move to try and be ready for next year. Too soon now in my opinion other than mop up if we get way ahead or way behind. But I really do hope Burcham gets some real playing time this year.
I feel the same way. I believe you've got to stick with GG as long as we are in the mix for a bowl game. IMO, it's a long shot but JJ owes that to the seniors and GG. If and when that hope is over, Burcham should see significant time.

The WRs are a liability but GG couldn't play much worse.
Here's my question- what does GG have to do to get benched? How bad does he have to play?

Nothing short of getting injured.

looked to me in the stands that the first interception was on Darius Joseph.-that's going to be a pick everytime when the receiver stops his route. Weren't there some more where the Receivers were as much to blame as Gilbert. The last one was bad.

As much as I like Joseph, the first one was on him. Completely lost where Gilbert was and then stopped the route.

If I'm not mistaken, Gilbert ran the read option, zone read alot in high school.
I'm of the opinion he's a bit pigeonholed in June's offense - standing in there getting punished and not fully taking advantage of his skills - perhaps being discouraged from running.
By the way, anyone notice in the first half he scrambled right and unleashed that rocket on the run?

Good point, he'd be better off used like a Collin Klein/Jordan Lynch/Pat White in a run heavy spread/read option type offense where he has the green light to run when passes break down. Occasionally he'll show off that Rodgers-esque rocket pass on the move in-between overthrows and interceptions.

I like GG and think he's a good kid. Sadly, he holds the ball way too long in the pocket and is prone to making bad decisions. When he runs he opens up the field so he needs to have the opportunity do so more often - and not only when it is totally obvious to the opposition al la JJ. I've heard people on this board say he can't throw the long ball but I disagree - hell he never gets a chance to. Saturday he had mediocre protection and no receivers.

He had dam good protection in the first half, but made many baaad decisions...way worse than his other games. Therefore we only scored one TD.
