we can be desperate. it's not like we have the public image of Alabama or Oregon. nobody knows who we are and the publicity would be good.

Mack Brown is UT's problem not SMU's. Let concentrate on June Jones.

Mack will have a P5 job if he wants one.

Nope; it's one thing to recruit to UT and a whole different challenge at SMU. One of Texas' problems is that they sign an early class of highly rated guys but miss on too many guys.

He could be the solution as we might not have to pay him anything.

My gut tells me "NO"....but I would have to say "it depends"

Mack Brown vs. Who?

If it's Mack Brown and his staff vs. Willie Fritz?

Ummm I like Coach Fritz....but I think I'd take Father Mack Brown.

It just depends on who we have to pick from.

I think you could have the greatest coach at SMU and we would still lose more games than we win if the staff cannot recruit top players. Simple as that.

That's why I brought up Mack - can anyone recruit the State of Texas better?? Or was that all the result of recruiting specifically to UT.

The latter. Recruiting to UT is effortless. Switzer always said it SHOULD be anyway.

He wouldn't even consider coming here. He will retire on his 8 million buyout

We miss on a lot whether we sign them early or late.

No... That guy bleeds burnt orange. If he leaves UT, he is done

There is the Frank Solich angle. Unjustly hired, he gets angry and takes a program to ghe next level.

But the question would be how hungry is he?

Mack is an innovator, not unlike JJ. Only Mack's innovations came from recruiting, not X and Os. Many have caught up to his ideas, not unlike people catching up to the RnS.

Mack is great. Seriously. You don't get hired as the head coach at Texas if you don't know what you'd doing. But even if he accepted his Joni dong know if he'd ever be really committed.

I agree.
Although the timing might not be right for Mack to step down into this mess, quite yet. He is more or less what SMU needs . A very credible, face of the franchise, coach, who can recruit Texas, and represent the University well.
Mack Brown may not be the "sexy" next big thing, hire. But I am amazed anyone around here would turn their nose up at Mack Brown.
I also agree that it is a non issue, and it is very unlikely that Mack would come here, unless he had been sitting on the sidelines for a couple years and had the itch, like say, a Larry Brown.
