I think he is saying that the staff are doing a great job selling Larry Brown, not that only LB types can assemble a staff.

Exactly. I'm saying that this staff without LB, though an excellent staff, would not, in my opinion, being the likes of Mudiay and KF here. I believe that having LB to sell is putting us over the top. You could have an excellent staff without LB but in the case of SMU I do not think that same staff gets the results we are seeing without LB.

Here is what the original intent of my post was. Larry Brown did not have many open scholarships but he still went out and got good players and cut loose the lesser ones on the team to stay within the total. We can have a total of 85. If recruiting the annual max of 25 puts us over the 85, you go ahead and get who you want if they are better than someone already here, and cut someone. It is a tough business but that is exactly what it is.

I was not referring to Larry Brown recruiting ability, I was referring to the method he used to upgrade the team. The only reason not to sign 25 is if you cannot find better than what we have.

I would agree with that. I think there can be happy medium with football. Currently basketball is recruiting at the absolute highest level possible. Football is recruiting at the lowest possible level for a division 1A school. My concern and many others on here is a couple of more years recruiting at this level and we are likely to sink.

[ring, ring]

[receptionist] Hello, University of Texas Athletic Department.

[JJ] This is June Jones at SMU, may I speak with Mack Brown?

[receptionist] One moment please.

[Mack Brown] Hey June, what can I do for you?

[JJ] Do you have any players sitting on the bench who will never see the field?

[Mack Brown] Sure I do. I am the best recruiter in the country.

[JJ] Can you do me a favor then? Tell them they should transfer and for them to give me a call.

[Mack Brown] Will do. I need the extra scholarships.

[JJ] Thanks, bye bye.

[JJ] OK recruiting is done for this year, let's go to the islands and play golf.

One can question JJ and his recruiting philosophy, and perhaps the post was made in jest, but one cannot question June's work ethic. No one puts in the hours that June does.

Wrong, without this staff we would not have Mudiay or KF. I don't know if you know it or not but Urlich has spent years cultivating a relationship with Mudiay and he has grass roots connections like no one else we have had here as he coached the Dallas AAU team at one time. The industry picked most of the staff for LB for what I understand. We would also not have Sterling Brown nor Ben Moore as that was all Jerrance Howard's Chicago relationships. It's all about your staff to even get to some of these kids. But LB and the staff compliment each other really well. That is why I well will probably not see to many more recruits coming form Chicago because we of the loss of Howard to Kansas. Make no mistake without this staff LB would not be this successful in recruiting.

How do you know how many hours June puts in? Do you follow him everyday? How do you know he puts in more hours than the soccer coach or LB? Sounds like you are such a JJ suck up that you are making unsubstantiated statements.

How do you know he doesn't?

That is why I am asking. He made the definitive statement not me so I
will wait for his answer.
