I would like to go 7-1. I expect us to be competitive in every game the rest of the way. Conncy is obviously a tricky one, but they are not great. UCF is last and at home, I say we bring it. However, even if we were only to win one more game, I want it to be UH.

Ryan captured my emotions on the subject, as well. JJ is a paradox to me. I respect his coaching, past success and commitment to the team. His knowledge of the game and ability to develop talent certainly exceeds my limited understanding of all things football.

However, the missing link is his lack of effort to engage the broader SMU community. My reaction to his interviews is underwhelming. It is as if he does not make the connection between his limited connection to SMU alumni/fans and how much better it would be if he paid more attention things outside the locker room and beyond the field. The fan base partially lacks energy because he apparently doesn't want to share his energy with us. Perhaps JJ gives so much internally that there is little to share with us?

As a result, I am conflicted.

Not sure how you can respect his horizontal game, lack of recruiting (part of coaching), and getting the team ready for 4 quarters of football. Commitment to the team died after the ASU debacle. He's sure been developing his offense... When two of them were gifted and his recruiting class looks weaker than most high school football teams... Just saying

That the ASU debacle, including an SMU recruit switching to ASU during the time June assumed June was going there, was followed by absolutely zero public effort from June is mentioned above, and I want to emphasize that it was the key for me. It's also something none of the national "June is a great coach" media are even aware of.

Because I wonder how much of the previous state of the football program he experienced. It is night and day different now, even from a recruiting standpoint.

I agree that it does not matter when Alumni 11 started attending games. The past is the PAST. Forward is the way we want to go, and the fear is we are slipping into the past with JJ. Alumni 11 I agree with you most of the time.

I have no doubt that JJ cares about his players, I think that is in his nature and I admire him for that. I also think the criticisms of JJ's lack of emotion is a red herring. The greatest coach this state ever produced was as stoic as they come, his nickname being the 'Plastic Man', and yes, I realize Tom Landry coached professionals and not collegians.

I also think if we had the success under JJ we were all hoping for, the 'we do what we do' quote would be the best selling SMU T-shirt since the Pony Express days. It's a great line that shows some real Texas swagger.

To me, it's all about results and why we are not living up to our expectations.

I think JJ is egotistical and inherently lazy due to his love of the Hawaiian lifestyle, his near-death experience, his loyalty to old friends and maybe his age; probably a combination of all of these. In the end, it really doesn't matter WHY I think JJ is failing, I simply know he is and that he's not changing.

It'd sell if the stuff we do when we do it isn't an outdated system of offense, a lack of recruiting prowess, and settling for 6-6 and garbage bowls. I guess we do do what we do. Heh, doodoo.

I was having Phil Bennett flashbacks in the first half against Rutgers...in fact, I was debating if this team would even beat Phil's '06-07 teams. Not sure how "night-and-day" it is. If you're only selecting the Rutgers 4th and OT...sure. In 13-14 of the 20 quarters we've played, we've looked abysmal.
