Anthony Grant is a good recruiter and the Bama program should have been a tourney team last year, and this year. He may be rigid, but he's no joke. Larry Brown is a different beast, but pulling a kid from Bama, when your main comp is Bama, is far from a no-brainer

Got it, he's in Dallas County, which is relatively speaking in between Tuscaloosa and Montgomery. Anthony Grant is a good coach. And, since he's been at Alabama (he came from VCU and was highly successful there) he has won some and even made the NCAA tourney once and also played in the NIT. But, there has been conflict on the team, in fact, a good amount. This player will know all about it. This should be interesting.

This is definitely not a cakewalk for SMU. I am not going to kid myself about this, we are in a straight up dogfight with Bama for this recruit. Scout has a good interview with him regarding his visit.

TidePony wrote:If it was football no way, in BB SMU wins this kid easily. The Ponies win with a better coach, better facilities, and a beautiful school in Big D. Bama's BB coach is rigid and has had some issues with players. He's no Larry Brown.
Thanks Tidepony...hope you are right.

I think now you know SMU basketball recruiting is legit.

I'll continue to beat a dead horse - one program (bball) knows how to recruit at the highest level, one program (football) doesn't know how to recruit period. Results don't lie.

That's why I said I'll continue to beat a dead horse, but if everybody knows that why are things still status quo? If we continue to sit on our hands until the EOY, the 2014 class done. It'll be three straight years of sub-par classes. Tough for any program to survive that in this day and age. Or we better hope the new staff knows how to recruit JUCOs

Or UT transfers.
And "Everybody knows that" is from a lame GEICO commercial, probably too obscure to be funny.

I get it now.

It's just frustrating that the small few on PFs can see how the lack of recruiting is killing this program but nothing is being done. Time is of the essence and I don't get an indication that the admin has any sense of urgency. If JJ is here through the end of the season, the CofC needs to force him to bring in an assistant with Texas ties to start recruiting today, not tomorrow. As we know, he not going to do it without being forced.

2012 - twelve 3-stars, nine 2-stars (diamonds in the rough)
2013 - seven 3-stars, 15 diamonds in the rough
2014 - two 3-stars (both QBs), 13 diamonds in the rough
If that doesn't convince you recruiting has completely stopped at SMU, nothing will.
