That's the thing, we don't have that great coach that gets the movers and shakers to come up with a plan...in our case, the movers and shakers (Orsini and the CoC recently, Slush Fund Boosters back in the 80s, etc) came up with a plan and then we got the great coach. It is good to see TCU got lucky and that private schools can play with the big boy public programs. We have to do it better here. I thought June Jones was that revolutionary coach that was going to bring us back...still waiting on that 12-0 season

I just simply don't get why everyone is so defeatist? At this point...
Haven't the most of you all lived through the death penatly? If you're still here, and NOW all is lost? wow...
Yes college football is changing. SMU is a program with so much upside. The sooner we act on reaching our potential, the better.
Now that TCU has reached a p5, their stuggle becomes different.
We have a new conference we can dominate with the right ingredients. We have to be TRAILBLAZERS NOT FOLLOWERS. TCU did it one way, WE WILL DO IT ANOTHER.
WE ARE DOING IT RIGHT NOW WITH BASKETBALL for God sakes...
you guys are the worst debby downers imaginable.

We need Sherwood to come back on board, but instead of paying players, pay a construction company to build an IPF

Most fans have come to the realization that we're not one good season, coach, or game away from turning everything around. it takes a total commitment (that is increasingly financial) from all aspects from a university in addition to the above to even have a chance of a successful non-cheating program.
You can't honestly tell me we're in any kind of position of being anything beyond .500 in a crap conference nobody respects.

Uh, this is a strange conversation. Hasn't anyone noticed that TCU's record is three wins and FOUR LOSSES? SMU's record is two wins, four losses. Sounds like neither one has much to brag about. TCU's three wins were SMU, SE LOUisiana and Kansas. Wow, full circle. If TCU has come full circle, looks like it's back to their status in the 1970's and '80's.

TCU can trust that the fat man will get it fixed (they always come roaring back after mediocre seasons), us on the other hand with the lack of ambition in this program (everyone is scared to death of competing against real teams on the field and on the recruiting trail) this might be as fixed as we're going to get.

The difference is the payout at seasons end.

The key difference is that a .500 or below TCU year these days is considered a below-average anomaly, as opposed to the same .500 SMU season being considered the pinnacle of our abilities. That is where my frustration comes from; we have folks that seem content to live at that level, and others who are not but also seem to believe that we are completely incapable of escaping it. I for one accept neither premise, but then again I am not one who can cut the big check or throw around enough weight to [deleted] the institution into getting its act together top to bottom.

JJ had an opportunity when he arrived at SMU to build something special, but he didn't have the same energy and enthusiasm for the job that Patterson had when he arrived at TCU. What's even more impressive is that TCU has been able to hold onto him when so many have tried to lure him away

also by the time Patterson got the job it was sitting pretty as far as talent in the pipeline-but he definitely surprised just about everybody keeping it going

The same TCU team that beat SMU 48-17, is in the Big 12 and laughing all the way to the bank with $20 million plus whatever bowl payout...that TCU?

TCU's problems are one QB or one Coordinator away...SMU is not even close to that level yet. I want our program to draw its own future into becoming a top 25 program...we just have to execute NOW!
