Not "proven" enough, plus he's not big on NCAA compliance.

He was an awful FBS head coach. Ask Kentucky what they think of him
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Yep, has no business being a FBS HC, thanks for time but he needs to go when June goes because there are better offensive minds out there.

It would be risky but he could be controlled to some extent with regard to his compliance with the NCAA, and I think that offensively he could maintain the development of the team. Obviously he needs a quality staff but given that I highly doubt we are going to be in the market for a "proven" HC, I don't think it's the worst idea at all.

You people are nuts if you think he'll be any better than June. He has a terrible record as an FBS head coach. Please stop. I beg you to just take a step back and realize who you are abdicating here. I mean you might as well be backing Phil Bennett because baylors defense is playing really well.
STOP IT

I do legitimately fear that we would hire the likes of Phil who ticks all the boxes. No-one knew he would struggle so as a head coach.

The question is would Mumme hire a serious staff to take us to the next level?

Normally Mumme just drags the same people around from job to job. He would need to be open to working with a bunch of new people in the interest of putting together the best staff possible (like Larry Brown). Of course this all depends on what the CoC is willing to spend on assistants, it's going to cost quite a bit to get some big time Texas recruiters in here.

Ah No- I thought Phil Bennett was a horrible hire from Day 1

I'll confirm that. Kansas State was big on JUCO recruiting back in the day. Pretty much all of their players were JUCOS and I remember you saying that recruiting JUCOS is not the way to build a program and that unless all of a sudden SMU allows heavy recruiting of JUCOS he would struggle finding his way here.

I stand corrected. But he did have Texas ties, he had been a successful DC, right?

He's been good for this offense but I do not want him as a head coach. Look at his record. Not good.
