S-D nice pic- thanks for posting. And to all the naysayers- please note the crowd in the background. Yes, we did use to have good crowds.

C-P : the opponents still bring a few fans. Hard to generate interest when the competition is not of interest to the local Dallas fan and is generally schools they might not have heard of.

no disagreement; that's why I've advocated games against UNT and UTEP. They bring more fans than all of our conference mates except Houstonredpony wrote:C-P : the opponents still bring a few fans. We even had a student card section back then! Meredith was the most exciting football player I ever saw.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but the fact is Ron Meyer has the distinction of being the head coach for the largest blown lead lost in SMU history (Holiday Bowl). Meyer's game day management allowed BYU to score 22 points in less than 5 minutes.
I love Ron Meyer and would go to Hades with him but that doesn't mean he was the best in everything he did.

Re: Poll - Who Was SMU's Best Game Day Coach?
Even though my dad started taking me to games in the '70s, my history closely following SMU only goes back to the '80s.
From a strictly Xs and Os perspective, I'll take June. And the reason I say this is every time we have additional time to prepare for an opponent and get healthy, it seems like we overachieve.
I'm throwing out the Armed Forces Bowel as an aberration, because nobody (especially the players) wanted to be there. But in both Hawaii Bowls and in the Compass Bowl, we annihilated better teams.

How do you explain our losses in opening games?

Ray Morrison was a real innovator, the man who brought SMU out of the wilderness. His teams played a Rugby-style game. Bobby Collins retains the best winning percentage of any SMU coach winning 75 percent of his games.
