Yeah JJ's offense has yet to be high octane. When has our offense scored consistently score more than say 35 points. It's hard to think of getting a bunch of touchdowns etc. I mean sadly watching Baylor and they appear more exciting and I'm not at the game...
I have to say though we do need some announcement (similar to UT) that explains pony ears, and the cheers etc). I ignore any loser who tells me to quiet down after a first down etc.

I thought he was the perfect for SMU for that very reason. The only time I've seen the run-n-shoot has been in Hawaii.

I sat next to a big college football fan on the plane from LAX recently. He believes that Jones has been the savior of SMU football and can't believe that our attendance sucks. Said that Gilbert's performance this year, combined with Jones success coaching kids who become successful as NFL wide receivers should create a lot of excitement among the fan base and the recruits. My sense is that this is the view of the casual outside observer in general.
Made me remember when I was a student and used to listen to Ron Meyer's weekly radio show. Dickerson and James were tearing things up but our paid attendance was never that good absent a bunch of hugely discounted gimmicks. Ron told the radio host that Dallas "is a tough nut to crack" and he never understood why we weren't filling up Texas Stadium.

Yeah, people who [deleted] about our attendance now seem to forget it wasn't even that good when we were one of the top programs in the nation in the early 80s. The only times we sold out Texas Stadium were for a big name opponent: Texas, Arkansas, A&M, etc.
Also, there's a lot more competition for entertainment and channels on TV now than there were in Dallas in 1982.

It might do June well to get a radio or TV show. At least he would be more visible to the fan base,

Only hope: SMU buys north park then demolishes it. Then SMU kids have nowhere to go after halftime

Only hope: become a relevant team that beats schools people have heard of before and can contend for the AAC title and BCS bowls. Then people will stick around after halftime

Wonder when the SMU administration starts having conversations about dropping football? You can't keep pumping that kind of $$$$$, and continually have nothing to show on your return. . . other than a big loss of $$$$.

Today was pretty bad. Can't imagine what UCF game will be. Early Dec game = no students due to finals (vs the few we have now) and cold weather and nothing to play for. Yikes.

We will likely be playing for a Bowl Game-although I'm worried about losing Joseph for next week's game
Fun, exciting game between 2 old rivals on Fox. Fans going nuts. Let's schedule a Southern Montana

I'll be there to support and cheer on my team as always no matter what, but it's pretty clear that things aren't likely to get substantially better any time soon.
We have about 2,000 actual fans and maybe 10,000 more people that show up to let their kids play or socialize with the game in the background. Most at the game don't really even care about the outcome, which is why so many leave throughout the game.
I think our own students and alumni see us as nothing more than a JV program and it's going to take way more than a flash in the pan great season or a handful of decent seasons to change that.
As I sat there with no more than 2,000 butts in seats 5 minutes before kickoff for the first time I actually thought we'd be better off just going FCS. Now 6 hours later I can't say I feel any different and it completely sucks.

When SMU was a top program, there were attendance issues. They were ranked in the top 10 but really only got north of 35k if they were playing Texas or AM. It's an issue of a small private school in a major city. Miami during the days if the U had the same issue. You couple that with 25 years of being pathetic and playing in a second tier conference, you get what we have now. It's not something to blame June jones for. Basketball will be interesting

TV show or radio? I'm afraid that might really put people to sleep. Besides, the over head projector does not translate real well on TV or radio

If we don't sell out Moody for big AAC games like Louisville, UConn, and Memphis, we should just move down to the Southland Conference.

Don't get a radio show. Video killed the radio star.
