Burcham's last meaningful game time was in high school. He got some garbage time against A&M, but let's be honest...they weren't throwing the kitchen sink at him. Against USF he was thrown into a meaningful game when the outcome was very much in doubt.

The LBs, DBs and DL are bigger, stronger and faster than the last time he played. The defensive schemes are more complex and disguised better. It is only natural for him to be hesitant and indecisive in the pocket. I think his arm is probably better than he showed against USF. I think his decision making will improve as he adjusts to the college game. Unfortunately, this takes time and game repititions.

I'm going to root like hell for the kid. He will improve with each snap. We might not get the end result we want, but he is the horse we are going to ride.

Now be fair, UH at least gets you a gig at Whattaburger maybe even Taco Bell. With regard to Burcham, he'll be our starter probably next year, so its just as well that he learn now, so that he's more prepared next year. I hope UH stacks the box and the first pass is after faking a handoff to the running back, and its for 7. That would make things a whole lot easier for the rest of the day. If UH doesn't stack the box on first down, audible to the run. One thing about JJ, you can't predict what he's going to call.

I can predict that on 3rd and goal from the one inch line, JJ will call a pass play.

nobody has to stack the box to defend SMU's running game-that's one of the problems. I'm sure SMU will go with the short passing game but if Burcham doesn't show a deep threat watch the field get small.

That 4th-down semi deep ball for a TD was an excellent throw by Burcham. We will have to run and throw deep a few times to open the field.

I am much more concerned with the short passing game than the long. He showed good touch at USF. He needs to make quick reads and quick releases to open up the field. Usually that only comes with actual playing time. Maybe for once though, we will be the team with the new freshman QB that burns another team.
