SMU needs to decide if it will be a national university in football or just a Texas university. Why beg kids who only have offers from North Texas and Texas St.? That should be embarassing to this program. Why not recruit 3 star kids from the SEC who are currently going to Duke, Vanderbilt, Northwestern. Those kids actually still respect the prestige of SMU. They also come another area of the country that plays big boy football. Why not recruit Alabama? They play a really high level of football there and they only have 2 P5 schools in the state. Texas does not rule the world of college football, contrary to popular opinion here. Duke doesn't just recruit NC. Vandy doesn't just recruit Tennessee. Northwestern doesn't just recruit Illinois. Stanford doesn't just recruit California. We could actually compete with those schools when recruiting nationally.

3 of the wins were against Rice. Take away the four Rice games and he is 2 - 17 -- a winning percentage of .105
THAT is a massive fail.
And it's on JJ.

SMU made that decision with it's move to the Big East. Our association with the WAC increased the number of California students enrolling at SMU and Turner made it clear he viewed the association with the Big East/AAC as an opportunity to enhance our visibility on the east coast. Recruiting on a national level is an entirely different issue. We aren't Notre Dame or Stanford or Duke or Vandy...but I'm sure Turner would like us to be

Vandy and Duke are AAU members and have medical centers. If Turner wanted this for SMU then he and the trustees are running in the wrong direction. I, on the othe hand, would love to see SMU have a medical center and AAU membership. I would also love to see the Methodist Church treat SMU as Emory's equal and not as Emory's ugly football step sister.

Let's just blame it all on Turner and nothing on June.

I don't think June has anything to do with whether SMU is an AAU member or has a medical school. Even a dental or veterinarian school would work for me.

I remember earlier in the year I said that UH was better than we are and several posters on here said I was crazy. Just like yesterday, we've been completely dominated in every aspect of the game when we've played a decent team.

Since SMU has an equestrian team, would an Equestrian Veterinary Hospital count? Or, does A&M have that covered?

I actually think most of our defense except for the usual problems in the secondary played Championship level or at least Bowl level football yesterday. They did isolate Sanders on a Receiver-that's subject to Coaching criticism. But Beau Barnes, Acker, Pope, Sanders, Yenga and Joyner were all impressive. I just don't think you can hide the problems in our secondary-and next year it gets worse

Need some JUCO help in the secondary in the worst way...getting Greenbauer (hopefully) back healthy next year will help, but losing Acker is tough
I'd still argue we'd be much better off in a 4-3 front with Sanders at DE and Yenga and Seals as outside LBs- get your best guys on the field. You'd have depth at DE with Barnes and Wood alongside Stephon and Minor could rotate DE/DT depending on the situation.

MV tell me more about this relationship between SMU and the Methodist church. I live in Georgia and I know that the church here treats Emory like Notre Dame. No expense is spared. Of course they also have a lot of that soda water money over there too.
Does SMU not get that same treatment in Dallas?

How does the Methodist church treat Emory?

I believe the preferred nomenclature is Muslims
