It is frustrating when in week one of year six, our opponent is able to start a true freshman walk-on quarterback with one BCS Offer (Wazzou), and he is able to play at a higher level (at least against us) then our backup QB, who is a RS-FR, and has spent over a year in the program.

I doubt GG plays. I was really pulling for Burcham, but he REALLY stunk it up. Wow. I doubt he can improve THAT much in one week. Either if UCF is BCS bound or not by the time we play them, it will get ugly quick. And it breaks my heart to say it. Just sad.

Stallion wrote:someone else said it earlier-its not so much that Burchum did n't perform adequately-he didn't and deserves an F -the real issue is that June Jones didn't have a backup ready to play in his 6th year. Remember Gilbert was dropped in his lap. So these backups would have been the guys June recruited and planned to start. June has struck out at recruiting and developing QB. Guys like Art Briles and Mike Leach have gone to through 4-5 straight QBs ready to step in and ready to play at competent even outstanding levels
I agree that Burchum has not enough snaps to be ready for primetime, but, to be fair, we haven't had the luxury of putting him the saddle since we've been fighting from behind much of the time. Maybe in some of the early games when all was lost, but even then, coaches feel that their QBs need the reps and the conditioning.

Regarding Burcham - I still have hope for him but not this year. He just did not see the field well AT ALL. I think he's got a good arm and is athletic (hopefully he'll hit the weights in the offseason) but he held onto the ball WAY too long (of course our O line played terrible generally as well . . . on many plays he only got 2-3 seconds and then had to scramble).

SMU Wins: 35- 31. UCF barely beat South Florida. UCF locked up BCS Bowl. SMU has a lot to play for, bowl, 6-6 record, coaches jobs. GG Will absolutely play! Could be his last college game. Not serious injury and wants to dress and make attempt to start game.

So you think June Jones will pull a Gary Patterson (when he played Casey Pachall vs Texas despite him not being ready) and play Garrett Gilbert?

I'll be cheering loudly for a win, but I'm not expecting a positive outcome.

What the hell kind of fan starts a thread with such a title? Seriously. Sad, sad, sad

A rational, non-biased fan of many, many years.
That's who.

Oh, and what the hell kind of fan keeps his head in the sand as the SMU football program sinks deeper and deeper into irrelevancy? Those are not the kind of fans we need.
So maybe that is the question you should ask yourself. Because I, for one, would like to bring up the issue and address the problem rather than simply ignoring it.

I'm not against bringing up the issue. At all. At all. But think for a second about the title of the thread. I sure as hell hope the coaching staff and team don't think this way. It's a foregone conclusion we'll lose, the only question is how badly. Wow. I need to go look up the definition of fan again, I seem to completely misunderstand.

It'll be interesting to see what the actual attendance (not the tickets outstanding that SMU announces) is given that there is an SMU basketball game at the same time and the current forecast is calling for a high of 37 on Saturday.
