Not sure why this is such a popular topic. What is it about my posts that raises so much pessimism by the ponyfans.com faithful?

I think they did something similar to me. I remember when I started, i was really excited and tried posting / inquiring on everything. They definitely accused me of being someone else. hah

But the advice someone gave above rings true - dont seek afirmation here. Everyone is a d*ck and its all good. Some of these guys live online, etc. You will get the hang of it.

And it wouldnt hurt for them to be more welcoming / but you, nor I, can control that.

Welcome. Go Ponies. Fire June.

Always welcome newbies, just take it down a notch and you'll be fine.

Dude, just chill.

People are a bit sensitive right now because the football board has been overcome with a couple of trolls in the past few weeks.

When one wakes up to 20 new polls on the basketball board it's easy to jump to the conclusion it's just another troll.

We all love the Mustangs, we just don't all show it in the same way.

Ha, I'm not the final authority on anything, ask my wife. I just want this place readable and not forced. Beyond that, I'm an east coast guy and hoops abrasive. This place is tame, believe me. If you aren't eating your own on message boards, there is no love. When we are a top 10 program and other schools find this place come game day, you'll be glad you have a tougher skin.

StandUp what in the world did you expect? You come on here and start a series of polls that contribute nothing and light up the boards with stupidity you are going to get flamed. Tone it down and contribute insightful comments and people will appreciate you.

Good point. Maybe I don't care that much.

TLDR man. Like I said, tone it down. We're glad to have all non trolling pony fans, but I'm not even going to read your novel. Why would I? You have no clout as a poster and no one is going to read some long [deleted] self serving essay about your feelings. You have to walk before you start with a marathon.

And you really do need some tougher skin, good lord.

Anyway, Pony Up

op: tl;dr

Join us on a few game threads to get a sense of the rhythm of this place.

A few things you may want to note:
1) No one reads eight paragraph posts
2) Bleacher Report is unreliable
3) There's quite a few hoops-knowledgable posters here. Hoopmanx, for example, lives and breathes hoops. Learn from them.
4) Everyone here hates Travis Bickle

I think rule number one, and maybe the only rule, is don't post more than two paragraphs - and they better be short. When it goes long it is just self serving, and usually means you are only trying to draw attention to yourself vs impart an idea or a quick opinion. This is a message board not a blog.

if you care about SMU people here will accept you as long as you don't abuse us with constant junk. Keep it short and they will excuse anything.

Everyone -

Thank you for the advice. Thicker skin, shorter posts, don't take anything personal, bar atmosphere.
