with this new Rivals scoring system I'd be careful drawing too many conclusions comparing big classes to small. Somethings off this year in that respect. Average per recruit sometimes reveals a lot. And with SMU's Class it puts up down to about 108th in Rivals and 85th in Scout.

There were inexperienced QBs all over Texas and the AAC that did it. SMU backups weren't ready. I'd go so far as to say the SMU QB recruiting at SMU has been and will be a mess and was salvaged only because we miraculously got a reprieve from the immediate transfer from the No. 1 QB recruit in the Country coming out of high school
In my mind Burcham beats #15 in his second start if he doesn't get hurt. In everyone elses clear sight Burcham made them look silly for 3.5 quarters. A Junior likely to be NFLs #1 draft pick won the conference. UCF would not have been successful if he goes down and you know it

While we're at it, let's talk about how well God (stallions fav GP) did without their starting QB. Would some planning gotten them to better than 4-8? Anyone in the BCS outside of OU lose a starter? And they didn't lose Bell, he just sucks as a starting QB. Think N. Illinois planned for when their heisman candidate QB went down?

I'm not sucking up to June. Plenty of my posts advocate for a change but would like to see some balance in how he is presented. He's an utter failure in drumming up support and getting the community behind our team but I can appreciate the care he seems to have for the players. And if he cares about the guys that play at SMU I don't care that he doesn't go out of his way to suck up to fans. Although I imagine since he seems to have CoC support that he knows who he needs to spend time sucking up to.

Yep, Burcham and the 13 points he led the team to made UCF look silly. Who looked silly when he put up a goose egg the week before?

U for talking bad about a frosh QB in his first game. Stats were good against UCF. If this were any other team U'd cut the kid some slack in the situation. Jones hatred clouds judgement.

Stats were "good" but he sure as Hell didn't make UCF look silly. The guy put up 13 points over 2 starts, I wouldn't cut any QB on any team slack for that performance, not when young QBs all over the country are doing better than that in just one quarter of work. BTW Jones love clouds judgement too.

Texas Tech played us witha true Frosh QB and the kid made us look silly.

Burcham has been in the system for 2 years and looked like a deer iin headlights against bouth UH and UCF. I do like the kid and think he has tremendous upside, but the lack of coaching and preperation showed on national TV in both games.

I don't fault Burcham. I fault the coaches.

24-34 with no INTs and a TD is good against #15. Better than Bortles the great against our D...

Good though a few other freshmen did better against that defense.

UCF won the game. A game that meant everything to us and nothing to them.

Bortles led his team on a game winning TD drive and had a TD run that killed us. He is likely the #1 or #2 QB taken in the draft, if he leaves.

Like I said before, I like Burcham and think he will be our QB for the forseeable future. But his 2 starts this year were both losses. And in one game he was 27 for 52 with 3 picks. So let's slow our roll a bit.

The statement to which Stallion responded was that we had good depth at QB. Now that we all agree Burcham has an upside, please discuss this depth of which you speak.

Going to copy a post from "hoofprint" on this on:

"So after Gilbert graduates next year, we'll have Burcham, Preston, Cassel, Kent, Colbert, Severt and that walk-on who's arriving this fall from California.
Finally: depth at the position!"

I agree completely with this. Most consider us lucky to have gotten Severt. And having seen Lamar play, Colbert is by far the best player they had in the last 2 years. Both of them have been done a disservice by the recruiting sites. I don't think we need more than 7 QBs and it looks like most of them can play!

We have plenty of QBs now, but how much experience do they have and how many of them are ready to play. Its the coach's job to have QBs ready to play. Burcham was not ready to play this year and he was #2 for the whole year. Next year Burcham will have 2 games experience. No one else really has any college game experience. Its not the players fault they are unprepared, its the coaching staff. Practice is no substitute for game experience.

That is the point. What good is having 7 QBs if none have ever played at college level? We have extremely limited experience at starter and zero experience after that.
