All teams that had a shot may have had a watch party, but all of them didn't invite fans and try to turn it into an arena-sized media event. Many of the so-called watch parties were the teams by themselves in a small room.

When they announced the watch party, there was still a chance we could blow it against Houston and open the trapdoor. Hindsight, but should have scheduled a team-only watch party and then invited fans if we beat Houston - maybe. A Friday announcement would have been plenty of advance warning for the diehards who showed up Sunday.

They took a risk and it backfired. Obviously whoever made the call hasn't been around SMU long enough.

It was textbook SMU pretentiousness to hold a soiree for tourney selection when your RPI is in the 50s.

That is like announcing the Mavs parade before the Finals is over.

It is hard to imagine that we didn't have a hint we'd be left out. Just embarassing all the way around no matter how you look at it. Such a letdown.

It's all hindsight now folks and it's all going to be pretty much beaten to death until the first tourney game tips off. I'm officially over it. Nothing we can do now except learn from it. Tuition's never been cheap here.

this blows my mind too that this occurred. but no one in our AD should be blamed i dont think. Its obvious that there was a late coup/power play in the committee room and AAC had no one in the room to stop it. We just got hosed.

Agreed. Going into Sunday, the Bracket Matrix showed that 96 of the 121 bracketologists had SMU in. I like those odds. How many had NC State? 3. [deleted] THREE. We got the shaft

CBS called and asked for us to have an event two weeks ago, and we agreed to do it for them.

Lunardi has only been wrong about 2 teams in the last 3 years

the pain on the players faces probably endeared our team to a lot of Dallas Metroplex residents who don't give a rats [deleted] about SMU. Larry Brown "No Tears-We Didn't Close the Deal" approach probably did too

When the SMU watch at Moody was announced, I thought about the Mavs parade plans of 2006 Finals. I thought it was a bad idea, and I didn't attend because I was nervous we would get screwed. I heard it was a sparse crowd, so I believe there were more of us nervous nellies than anyone wants to admit.

There were over 1,000 there, including most of the hardest core supporters. It was actually cathartic to be in that context instead of alone. I'll never be embarrassed to support smu.

Did anyone notice the confetti cannons at the ready behind the players in Moody on Sunday? Wah-wah...

... I am really proud of you guys that showed up, and I am happy to hear the cathartic nature of the event.

Yeah I saw the guy loading them pre event. They can just put them in the closet until next year. So sad.
