I don't know, Chad's three pointer at the buzzer to mount a furious 10 point comeback in under two minutes to win a SWC championship outright is pretty big. I was there, and was just as excited about this.

Can we call it a tie?

Been watching the last two minutes on replay since I got home. I've gotta say, the commentary was spot on - called the Cobb/Moore mismatch on his initial three, Cal switching to man for the last possession and the Kansas play at the end. This is sweet to watch.

eww, I forgot about Chad Allen. That was an awesome shot and Moody rocked that night. I'd say the Chad Allen shot was more meaningful as a game and just as good of a shot, but tonight was crazier and will have a more lasting effect because that Chad Allen team was all seniors and then we fell off the map.

Yeah-that's right-Chad Allen's shot was a worthy nominee. Key play in eventual SWC Championship. Weren't SMU and believe it or not Rice playing for first place that nite. It was near end of season but not final game.

I was at the Chad Allen game as well - and this definitely topped that game. This was a tournament game - a win or go home game a game against a Pac 12 team (not Rice), a nationally televised game (not some Raycom channel only seen in Dallas). Chad's three may have won a #1 seed in the SWC tournament, but it didn't even solidify a tourney game.

Kato Armstrong and Baylor's (forgot former NBA player's name-was it David Wesley?) put on an unbelievable 3 point show at Reunion in Championship of SWC Tournament too. Both had about 30+

I like everything about this night, but i gotta disagree, Chad Allen's shot sent us to the Big Dance make no mistake. Rice was damn good that year, damn good. NIT is fun, but its the NIT. Like i said above though, since we have a young team, this win does more for the future than chads did.

Good call Stallion! That shot may have saved my marriage. You should have heard my spouse...I kept saying "have faith in my Bobby" (totally pointless in the context of the game) but to Mama it made perfect sense. My daughter, soon to be a Mustang herself loved my comment at the buzzer..."suck it you bunch of dope smoking hippies!" Living in Cali makes this so much sweeter and better yet I won some Pappy Van Winkle whiskey on a bet with a Cal alum in the office. Very entertaining. Watching replays of earlier rounds now. Very exciting times!

Correct, Rice was up one game on SMU with two games to go for each team. Rice was in control much of the game and was up by 10 with 2 minutes to go. SMU mounted a great comeback with some steals and had the ball down 3 with 5 seconds to go. Shumate drew up a great play that isolated Chad with a clear 3 pointer at the buzzer, which he drained, nothing but net. In overtime, SMU dominated and won close to double digits.

that made Rice and SMU tied for the SWC title with each having one game to go. SMU won their game easily. Rice, however, as a heavy favorite, lost to Tony Barone's Fightin Aggies which gave SMU the title outright and got us in to the big dance.

Chad Allen's 3 at the buzzer to make all that happen has to be at least tied with tonight's shot. That shot by Chad ultimately gave us an outright SWC championship and a spot in the dance.

PS...we sucked in the conference tournament then as well, we lost to bottom seed Baylor in the first round upset.

/cheers

Those pot smoking hippies as you call them had a good team and they were missing a key player. And SMU is in no pace to talk about drug use at other schools because we have drug problems of our own and and it is more than pot use.Have to give them some props for a hard fought game. Both teams played their hearts out.

Tough Call definitely. Nic Moore draining a game winning 3 to take us to New York, or Chad Allen nailing one at the buzzer that ultimately gave us an outright SWC championship.

I cannot pick, I call it a tie.

I have a picture in my head of Gene Phillips being carried off floor after last second basket-but I can't place it. You know it happened though. Did he hit a game winner in his 51 point performance at Gregory Gym-or maybe in the Hills
