Re: OT: Texas Rangers University Days
There is a big disconnect here. Either the Rangers or SMU dropped the ball. As the only D1 university in Dallas, we should absolutely have a chance here. Can't imagine there would not be much interest from SMU students.

Our Athletic Department is doing a horrible job at putting our name out there. We are supposed to be on top of all of this. I am serious, we are starting to fall into irrelevancy FAST.

Re: OT: Texas Rangers University Days
Are there really that many SMU people who would go to something like this?
I have always been under the impression most SMU alumni in the DFW area live in Dallas, HP, and the northern suburbs.

Can't we just be really good at basketball and not care what the marketing folks in Arlington think about college?

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is SMU fans officially giving up on big time sports marketing exposure.
I did not sign up to be a Gonzaga, Creighton or any New Big East team. I signed up to make this school the best thing since USC.

Re: OT: Texas Rangers University Days
It is possible, no knowledge from my perspective, but possible, that the Rangers reached out to many southwest schools including SMU, and offered the opportunity to take part. It is also possible that it is at a cost to the university to do so. This is a marketing campaign for the Rangers, not the schools. SMU may have chosen to spend their money elsewhere and more meaningfully than at a Ranger game.
Just a thought that you may wish to find out about before making too many rash comments.

I guess the Rangers also have a WDNWHA committee.

So do the Dodgers have USC Trojan night at the park?
Being announced in the fifth inning in Tarrant County isn't big time. Is that as big as you think it can get?

Oops! Touché.
Still, it's actually a marketing ploy for the Rangers so I don't feel chided.

Reach out to the SID....
Definitely a disconnect somewhere....a ball was dropped. Not the hugest deal. Just not a trend that needs to continue. All I know is, if all those other schools are included, SMU needs to be included.

exactly my point. I am only calling these things to attention so that we don't drop the ball on these. If it becomes a habit from our Athletic Dept. not to reach out and put our name out there or these Dallas area businesses, media, sports teams etc. to leave us out...it will start a dangerous precedent in which this town becomes overrrun with other teams not SMU and we are slowly forgotten...just like the DP era.
