Does JJ speak highly of SMU off the record when asked? Does he truly "sell" SMU in social situations? I realize JJ has his own way of doing things but is he even remotely happy here?

One of the first things I noticed about LB from the beginning is his genuine passion for our school. Every interview he does he will praise our school, our city and our fans. Over the years I've rarely even heard JJ interviewed, much less praise SMU. I get that he's frustrated by the lack of fan support but I still believe a lot of that falls on him. I know he's not a rah-rah kind of guy but In the entire time he's been here I've never gotten the impression he's happy.

Do you really expect to get slammed for that? I will be surprised if you do.

Why would you get slammed for that? I always wonder what goes on in the guys head, to not be able to pass basic "marketing 101" in regards to selling your program and building support in the community for what you are doing. What LB does feels fantastic because we haven't seen it from our football program in forever.

This is basic stuff to not understand, and reflects some other problems with either ego, effort or brain cells.

I thought Phil Bennett did an admirable job selling SMU to the students, and city of Dallas. . . Unfortunately, he had to show what type of head coach he was when the lights were on.

Because I believe many on here think I'm a JJ hater, which I'm not. I am still very put off by his complete lack of focus/effort in recruiting since the ASU flirtation but that is just beating a dead horse now.

It would be shocking, and a pleasant surprise to see any kind of passion about SMU from the man.

I was surprised he came to as many SMU basketball games as he did this year.

I agree with this. Bennett was similar to Doh in that regard.

He still hasn't adjusted to people not worshiping him here like they did in Hawaii.

I always felt like JJ came here to put on a little show and rake in a ton of dough. He knew what he was getting himself into when he came here - he knew he'd be recruiting and playing against the likes of A&M, Tech, TCU, Baylor, etc. If he upset the Aggies and/or beat Tech while consistently competing for conference titles and winning a few of them, then great. But if not, what the hell? At least he'd get to go back to Hawaii a couple times in December for a post 7-5 season bowl game. He's more than set, financially. He's accomplished a lot more than most college coaches will so he has his seat at the "who's who" table of college coaches. Who knows what he does. My guess is he likes to spend a lot of time hanging out with his fellow good old football coaches and talk about the good times. Seems to me that he's preparing to move on to a new chapter in his life, in Hawaii, with millions upon millions in his bank account.

June definitely came here for the money but he assumed his reputation would take this program a lot further than it actually has. Remember how recruits were supposed to flock to SMU to play in his high-powered offense and how said offense was going to be an equalizer that would allow us to beat more talented teams? None of that materialized and he had no contingency plan so he's in full blown spin mode trying to keep this gravy train flowing as long as possible.

nope…just a game.

Big12, I think a rival is best defined as someone that you compete with that could or has beaten you with enough regularity that you generate some degree of emotion from them other than apathy…our former SWC rivals don't really look at us as rivals anymore, with the notable exception being the Frogs.

just keep 'penciling in' those….rivals.

June has to know...he has to know...that being seen with paraphernalia of any school that isn't the one he is coaching at is bad PR, much less the school that is the next opponent on the schedule.

He is trying to get fired at this point.

We ran the run-n-shoot back in the late 80's - early 90's as well due to the whole "equalizer" notion.......Romo and Freiburger (spelling) ran it as good if not better than any JJ QB at SMU has.......and with much less talent around them.

Believe me, there is not a single day that goes by I don't regret mistyping his name when I registered... :)

Great color analyst too!
