Their mascot can be a potato.
I disagree. Braves and Chiefs are names that simply designate titles of nobility within the Native American community. Indians is a little awkward on the political correctness scale, but it isn't offensive. Seminoles is just identifying a specific tribe; it isn't mocking or degrading it in any way.East Coast Mustang wrote:My thoughts exactly. If they can get teams to change their names, then it just makes it that much easier to sue them since they will have admitted their wrong. Not a $$$$$ grab or anything.East Coast Mustang wrote:http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/2014/05/04/redskins-mascot-nickname-indians-wahoo-chiefs-blackhawks-braves/8705159/
But the National Congress of American Indians, which bills itself as the nation's most representative American Indian and Alaska Native advocacy organization, has long called for the abolition of all such team names in pro sports.
"I say they're all equally offensive," Blackhorse said. "They all promote stereotypes of native people for profit. And that's not right."
ECM, you are not helping...you are clouding the issue with facts....this is an emotionally driven issue to so many...get onboard...East Coast Mustang wrote:And it probably warrants mentioning that a former president of the National Congress of American Indians, Walter Wetzel, actually designed the current Redskins logo.
