After somewhat sobering up, I realize I failed to mention losing a 20 point lead in the last 4 minutes of the 1980 Holiday Bowl. BYU 46 SMU 45. Again, it's always us, always SMU.

we'll never know, but I would be shocked if Mudiay had chosen to play college ball at UK instead of SMU that he would not be playing college basketball this coming season (UK decision) instead of being forced to play in Europe (SMU decision).

Couldn't agree more.
To the drunken rant I will add watching TCU and Baylor celebrate conference championships and BCS bowl appearances while the best we can hope for is 7-5 with our home games 1/3 full for opponents no one cares about.

See a court decision in the early 80s I think that gave broadcasting rights (= $$$$$$$$$$$) to
the individual schools instead of the NCAA as a whole.
That blew apart the fairness of NCAA Div 1 major sports

True amateurism of the NCAA major sport athlete was lost

Might've been our panicky rationalization for going ahead with the cheating

We'll never know the answer to why...
But it definitely made it appreciate the 2009 season more. It definitely made me appreciate traveling to Birmingham to see the Ponies in a bowl game for the first time in my lifetime LIVE in person more. And it most certainly made it appreciate last season's basketball season plus the NIT run more.
I haven't seen everything from the 80s obviously and SMU football/basketball has been absolute crap for nearly all of my 25 years. Still doesn't make me any more less excited for this upcoming basketball season (and the years following).

The only lucky break we have had is LB, did we mention the break up of the BE while we are at it?

The funny thing is, we didn't even want LB (me included, in 2012- oops!)
He just came here and crammed success down our throats, whether we liked it or not

Yep. Me and most here were skeptical. I think we were a all jaded with our horrible coaching hires in the past - Shunmate, (leaving out Demint cause he had limited success), Tubbs, and Doh - not to mention all the FB coaching hire failures. We expected the worst.
Glad LB fell into our lap.
