The only thing that will get us back in a power conference is filling that stadium every game. ECU and UCF fill theirs for conference games and for games vs FCS schools....so that "weak conference schedule does not fill stands" excuse is bull. TCU filled their stands in the MWC

We don't need to drop football we need to grow some nuts and double down. Ever heard of the "Surge" in Iraq? We are a top tier academic school that is in ground zero of the best high school football players in the nation. There is not another school in the nation that has better proximity to recruits than SMU. We need to rid our school of Spanish art collecting eggheads who have never worn a jock strap and play some damn football!

Only problem is they actually win, and in UCFs case they win the big games (baylor, georgia)... we beat nevada and tcu one year and... get pummelled by anyone else thats deemed P5

Hey Buckwheat-we've had a Sports Management degree as well as a Applied Physiology since June Jones got here that has been talked about on here hundreds of time. Perhaps you aren't the best one to comment on the situation if you are that clueless.

I agree with you. forgot to add that winning will help fill the stands. ECU and UCF have proven wins create a solid fanbase. Look at the mob here at SMU, a school without a rich basketball history relative to our football history.

Why don't we just name our major Applied Physiology AND Kinesiology like a bunch of schools do so we don't have alumni constantly asking why we don't have PE degree.

No doubt, I just think its more important to have solid wins against big time programs than numerous wins (quality over quantity), at least as a fan and alum, thats what i would like.
I also think basketball has one advantage over football, its smaller. The mob is great and is alway 100% but lets not forget moody is like 10k versus ford being 33k. Theres no doubt our basketball program made a 180 with Larry coming in, and thats why we need to find a Larry of football (passionate, and can recruit, and can teach).

Great, thanks for the info. Glad we are making steps to address the problem.
Seems like there is still along way to go based on the results.

Because Applied Physiology sounds a lot better and more prestigious.

I wish all of these know it all sports reporters and talking heads would get off their collective butts and do a little research on why the SMU football program is in the current condition it is in.
It is starting to get as old as the, "is SMU still suffering from the death penalty" talk

I wonder if Gosselin even knows what majors we offer?

SMU should respond in the media to dispute and refute these constant negative academic/admission themes that live in perpetuity. I think the administration though does kind of like the fact that they have lowered the standards without anybody really realizing it.
