Oh yeah. LB.

I didn't say this was my idea. I'm not sure it's the best solution for SMU. I'd rather see Chad Morris. Nevertheless, this is what's in the works.

I wasn't responding to you specifically. FWIW, I agree with you.

If you want a coach who was unable to sustain a top program despite working at a place that recruits itself, all the while spending more than anybody in the country on supposedly top flight assistants, then Mack is your guy. As far as Mack getting into every prospect's living room, that might be true simply because they kids' parents remember him when he was successful. But their first question will be how did you fall from coaching a national championship team to SMU? And I honestly question whether the man is a judge of talent. So many UT players were suddenly ranked as blue chip caliber in HS simply because UT showed interest. Then a lot of them never performed to expectations or turned out to be criminals.

One reason for the interest in Mack Brown is his Big 12 connections.

Yes. He brings immediate credibility to the program as well, similar to LB.

Mack Brown won a national championship at Texas, defeating a great USC team, coached by Pete Carroll, which featured Heisman Trophy winners Reggie Bush and Matt Leinhart.

The last time SMU hired a coach with a national title under his belt, someone named Larry Brown, it
worked out pretty well.

What do his Big 12 connections mean to us?

Absolutely nothing.

How much longer would Mack even want to coach and if he is hired, can you bring a "coach in waiting" that we could be excited about?

Remember that HCIWs are severely limited in how much they can recruit off-campus so there's no benefit to having one which it why it isn't practiced anymore.

There were a string of them under Mack at UT and the whole concept was an utter failure under his leadership. He spent most of his time undermining them and trying to throw them under the bus.

I'm certainly no insider but a few folks I spoke to this weekend said that Mack was certainly under consideration and that interest is mutual.
