My wife is a teacher. She works longer hours (on her feet all day) for significantly lower pay than I do.

Not what I was referring too. I honestly don't know anything about getting a degree in vocal performance and the careers it leads to, so I really can't have an opinion. Judging from your username I assume you would have a much more informed opinion than me on musical degrees.

The only thing I even really know about Meadows is that it is one of the best art schools in the country so I assume it is a good move to go to SMU if you are interested in the arts.

I apologize if my earlier comment came off the wrong way. I didn't mean for it to. I have a lot of teachers in my family and I agree with most of the other posters that it is a mistake we don't have a program like some of the other schools.

No I was being serious. It's a worthless degree, especially from SMU. But I hold it dearly.

I enjoyed my time in meadows, didn't realize I was so close to a major when I graduated. (art history minor), but the school did produce some majors that the people are not working with them. Know several artists that are selling insurance.

That would be me but I didn't pay tuition, my parents did. I have heard your question many times but I have always believed there is so much more to your education than what you learn in the classroom. My parents raised my 2 sisters and I as Mustangs and they were so thrilled that all 3 of us graduated from SMU and that we all earned a degree in fields we were passionate about.
I'm just curious...if your child wanted to be a teacher would you discourage him/her from going to SMU?

No you are so right...teachers are so underpaid for the work we do. If pay doesn't improve for teachers, and we keep loosing support from our administrators, it will be a very sad day for education in our state/country. I'm pretty sure there is no other profession that prepared you for the job you have.

A very thought provoking question.

If SMU were at full cost, I would encourage them to consider other options that might be financially more feasible, but if they determined that SMU were still the best fit, I would not stand in their way. If they had a scholarship to SMU that made it more affordable, it would be a much easier choice to make. (All this would be moot if I had the financial resources of the Saudi royal family)
