Realignment talk bores me to tears, but I did at least get a good laugh at this one...

Still, to get to 12, the conference would have to pair BYU with another school. There are several other “free agents” out there, including Memphis, UCF, Air Force, Cincinnati, Houston and even SMU.

Given its football prowess relative to those other possibilities, Boise State would seem to be the logical choice.

None, however, are real threats to join other conferences in the current climate. The Big 12 can afford to wait (mostly to see if Scenario 2 comes to fruition). And while it waits, there could be another up-and-comer worth reviewing: North Dakota State.

The Bison have become an FCS powerhouse in recent years, having won four straight FCS national titles. They actually have as many wins against the Big 12 as Kansas does in the last five years.

North Dakota’s economy is booming, with the population of Fargo expected to double sometime in the next 20 years. North Dakota State might not be a viable option today. But in a few years, the Bison could look a lot more attractive.

North Dakota state? Is that a joke? More people live in the park cities than their entire city. Their state has 750k ppl while Dallas alone has 1.3M and DFW 5 to 6 Million.

If the Big 12 expands, the only schools they consider are: SMU, UH, Cincy, UCF, BYU, Boise, USF, Memphis, UConn, SDSU, Tulsa, Tulane. That lot is pretty much the best of the rest based on the combination of wins, potential to compete, market size etc...

I agree with you. However, many posters on this board will argue with you that SMU fans will only show up if SMU is playing "someone they've heard of". It is as if there is this large group of SMU waiting for the day when SMU plays one of the top 25-30 schools. But other than that, they can't be bothered to attend if the opponent doesn't have a high enough Q rating.

I would have to think the B12 would be looking towards Florida if they were going to expand. Why Ohio? ND? ID? Add USF and UCF and start moving into another fertile recruiting ground with a large state population.

SI writes article on Boren's comment and analyzes several options (BYU, Boise, Cincy, Houston, Memphis, UCF, USF), and does not mention SMU.

That means Texas does not want expansion. They must have other plans and have just silenced the opposition...making it seem like crazy OU is the only one that wants expansion. WVU is always griping about travel partners and OU leads the northern schools so it is weird to see them abandon OU in this matter. Not even the pokes came to the rescue and we know how they feel about the matter (see Boone Pickens on expansion)

Hello from beautiful Fort Worth guys and ladies...hope summer is treating you all well. It's been a while so thought I would check in.

When it comes to realignment, obviously none of us can control the future so hopefully you can all enjoy the ride that is hopefully coming with HCCM. I know lots of TCU fans who spent our time before the Big 12 worried about what was going to happen...heck they are still worried. Just win games and remember that the journey is the fun part even though the goal may be something bigger. See you more and more as football season approaches!

Reed, even though I am tempted to say you are trolling our board (and big dogging us with your newfound P5 status) I will refrain from all insult and say this: Thank you TCU for showing us the way. SMU was, is and will be better than TCU, and PonyUpTempo Football will show why SMU is better than TCU in all ways shapes and forms. God Bless the SMU Mustangs.
