Wonder if it was to be closer to the new student party tent.
Maybe I was distracted with the action on the field, but I seldom could hear the band on TV. When I did hear them it was very faint and you had to listen closely realize it was the Mustang Band. I attributed part of the problem to ESPN cutting back the band and crowd noise for broadcast purposes.
Think about it. It's physics, geometry. The opponent's band is at the top right of the horseshoe and the players on the field, the SMU sideline, and the SMU season ticket holders on the west side get a pretty direct hit of sound from the wrong band. The SMU band is placed in the exact same spot Baylor put them at McLane last year, with slightly less than half their sound hitting any human being directly. Much of it is projected down Mockingbird towards the Dallas Country Club. An old lady sitting on her porch on Mockingbird drinking iced tea on Friday night heard more Mustang Band than we did in 206.
