Mex - if you don't think we have billionaire alums that have a passion for SMU and SMU sports - you are beyond clueless, and apparently have not been paying any attention at all. They give big money to our sports and have in fact been the only reason we are even still up and running. Show a little gratitude. Who cares where they go on vacation.

Correct
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Correct
Has nothing to do with bringing the 'perception' down, and everything to do with avoiding more competition. If Houston gets in, they get an even greater leg up in Houston recruiting, they keep Herman around because of the extra $$$$ and P5 prestige, and they quickly challenge the 'big dogs' (just like Baylor and TCU have done), for conference supremacy.

It has everything to do with bringing the perception down. Adding G5 schools won't help the Big 12 get more money in their next contract and they're already facing a huge revenue gap versus the SEC and Big 10. Ideally, the Big 12 would love to increase competition if they could add revenue-driving schools. Hell, everyone knows UT's wet dream is to lure FSU, Notre Dame and Clemson to the conference.

Tilman Fertitta has family ties to the Maceo Syndicate that ran the vice rackets in the Free State of Galveston. The Fertittas the Maceos were united by the marriage of Joe Fertitta to Sam Maceo's sister Olivia. That brought the Fertittas into the Galveston/Dickinson rackets. My late father (the original Rayburn) could tell you some stories about that stuff.
This noise about UT being afraid of UH in the Big12 is standard UH BS. That campus is the bullseye of Third Ward crime. My niece transferred out of UH -- in part -- for that reason.
I lived in Houston for a long time and I really liked it. But these days ... ugh.
If UH was smart they'd work behind the scenes RIGHT NOW to convince the Big 12 to boot Baylor and add them. Their star will never be brighter than it is right now, Baylor is the media pinata with two horrifying athletic scandals in the past 13 years, and the Big 12 lost significant market share in Houston when A&M left for the SEC.
Instead they've got some mob boss shooting his mouth off

Plus Waco has no market value, whereas Houston has plenty. I understand not wanting to add more Texas schools but you have to recognize that Houston and Dallas bring much more market value than Waco and Lubbock.

No doubt but it's too bad we didn't have the Governor and House Speaker back in the day to force the issue. Just shows that raw political power trumps money interests.
